  2. 3. Church History <ul><li>Founded in 1887 by former members of the Freewill Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Richard Bassett. </li></ul><ul><li>Rev. Bassett served as pastor until his election to the State Legislature in 1892. </li></ul><ul><li>Second Missionary Baptist has had seventeen pastors since her organization. </li></ul><ul><li>Rev. Robert A. Lee has served as pastor since November, 1981. Under his leadership and God’s guidance the church has adopted a rigorous program of prayer, worship, Bible study, evangelism and outreach that has resulted in tremendous growth over the past two decades.  </li></ul>

Second Missionary Baptist Church Vision Statement: We recognize that we are a part of the body of Christ, and see ourselves as a people working together for a divine and sovereign God to secure the ultimate unity of the body of Christ as described by the word of God.  Mission Statement: Our mission is the capturing, guiding, and preserving of other for service to Christ. We believe that the process involves a holistic ministry of training: spiritually, culturally, scholastically, economically, physically, and emotionally Working Statement: We work our mission by becoming and &quot;being&quot; an entity tolerant of differences, willing and able to change for the better, and ready to move as a mediu7m of growth in a trans-generational way. We work through this by maximizing the gifts and talents of the membership through an atmosphere of love and fellowship.  Pledge Statement: We pledge to work toward our vision by moving out of our corporate comfort zone, and becoming a catalyst to the cohesion of our Christian community. Our banner will be one of nurture as we prepare our children and youth, secure our young adults, stabilize our maturing adults, and support our seniors.
