General Mills was recently recognized among the world’s most sustainable companies by the 2015 Corporate Knights Global 100 Index. In our ongoing pursuit to stand among the most socially responsible food companies in the world, we are always seeking new opportunities to improve our practices, our products and our supply chains in the name of sustainability and transparency. Here are some highlights over the last year.

Global Responsibility Highlights

Sustainable Sourcing
We’re committed to sustainably source 100 percent of our 10 priority
ingredients by 2020. These ingredients represent 50 percent of
General Mills’ total raw material purchases.

Sustainable Agriculture Practices
Earlier this year, General Mills and Walmart joined together to pledge
to more than double the reach of Field to Market, a nonprofit
organization dedicated to working across the agriculture supply
chain to address the food demands of the rapidly growing
population, while conserving natural resources.
Success in this endeavor would mean that FTM would expand to 2.5
million acres by 2015.

Making Every Drop Count
Most recently, we announced a
corporate water policy that
provides a framework that
guides us as we engage with
stakeholders to improve the
health of watersheds,
particularly those in regions
where we operate.
Our goal is to reduce our water
usage by 20 percent by 2015 by
recirculating water for reuse
rather than disposal and
increasing efficiency.

Addressing Climate Change
In 2014, we also announced a corporate climate policy that
establishes a framework for our efforts to track and reduce GHG
emissions across our broader value chain. This includes requiring key
ingredient suppliers to demonstrate environmental, social and
economic improvements in their supply chains.

Watershed Stewardship
Agriculture uses 70 percent of the world’s fresh water, so we know
conserving water resources is not only crucial for the environment but
for our business as well. Recently, we began an important new
collaboration as a Founding Partner in the Alliance for Watershed
Stewardship (AWS), which aims to solve challenges at the watershed
level in a multi-stakeholder collaboration.
