Victory Park in Yerevan, also known as "Monument", was originally named after a statue of Stalin that stood there until the 1950s. It is one of the most pleasant areas of the city and once contained real beaches on Lake Yerevan. A thick forest also once stood where the Golden Palace Hotel is now located. Victory Park features a 22 meter tall statue called "Mother Armenia" designed by Ara Harutyunyan in 1967, and a military museum was established inside the statue's pedestal in 1970.
