Ppt will and going to francesca g.o

  1. 1. Predicting future events: will and going to 1. Using will or going to. What is the difference? 2. Practicting predictions: “The world future” 1
  2. 2. What comes to your mind when you think about the world future? 2
  3. 3. Do you have a possitive or negativevision of the future? Look at these examples: Negative vision of the future. Positive vision of the future. 3
  4. 4. Visions of the future. Examples:“In the future so many things can gowrong. If global warming goes on, humankind will desappear and maybe alienswill inhabit the world.”“I remain optimistic about the future. TheUN is going to continue working for thecountries understanding, so I don´t thingwe will face a third world war.” 4
  5. 5. Let´s watch a video!How does this video picture the world future? 5
  6. 6. Remember: We can use either will or going to when we predict future events, but is there any difference in meaning between them? Use WILL… Use GOING TO…• To predict an event • To mention an event in without having real the future based on evidence. Example: facts.Example: Robots will take control of Extreme weather caused by the world (I just imagine this global warming is going to for the future) worsen, scientists say. (there is evidence to state that) 6
  7. 7. Analise these following examples:1) I think people will drive flying cars in the future.2) Scientists state that the weather is not going to be predictable.• Real facts? Personal ideas?• Notice that we can shorten the negative form of will “will not” as: won´t• While the negative form of going to stays the same: not going to 7
  8. 8. What the world future is going to be like?Activity: Write down your own vision of the futureusing your imagination and real facts related to scienceand technology. Support your ideas.(10 lines at least) What can we do to save the world future now? Volunteer to read your future vision.Choose the right form to predict the future: will or going to 8
  9. 9. Conclusion• We have studied two ways to express future predictions: Will and Going to.• Let´s explain the main differences between them.• Volunteer to state the main points of the lesson. 9
