Bilingual centers in CLM An important step towards bilingualism was the European Section Program for Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary schools in 2005. Students can choose to study different subjects in English.
Bilingual Centers in CLM 2010 – 2011: There are 183 bilingual centers and 189 bilingual sections, in which parents can choose different subjects in English (there can be more than one class per course). They represent 21% of the total amount of educational institutions in CLM. 2011-2012: There will be 204 bilingual sections (170 in English and 34 in French) in 195 education centers. Different sections could be found in the same centre. 89 programs in Kindergartens and Primary centers. 108 in Secondary education. 7 in Vocational Training. A total of 1.300 teachers will work in these centers. A total of 32.000 students will study in bilingual centers.
There are native speakers who provide assistance in conversation classes and provide first hand cultural knowledge to the students and teachers. In 2011-2012 there will be 214 native speakers. At least two non-linguistic subjects should be taught in a foreign language (English or French). The most common subjects are: Social Sciences, Biology, and Arts & Crafts in K indergarten and Primary school. Biology, Social Sciences, Maths, and Technology in Secondary school. Requirements to become a teacher in a bilingual High School in Castilla - la Mancha 1) To hold a higher education degree. 2) To have a teaching certificate (CAP) or a Master's degree 3) To have certifications proving linguistic competence of B2 or higher within the European Reference Framework for Languages. To do that, teachers need to legalize their certificates (national or international certificates) through the “ Conserjería de Educación, Ciencia y Cultura de CLM”
Multilingual Plan in CLM (2009-2013) Main Objectives All students in CLM should be able to use fluently at least one foreign language. To study a second language both linguistically and in context.
Eight Secondary Objectives . Some of them are: 1) To increase the number of bilingual educational centers in CLM and to encourage a stronger link between bilingual Primary schools and bilingual Secondary schools. 2) Teacher´s Training. Five routes have been developed, being the most important: El Programa de Aprendizaje de Lenguas (PALE). Language learning abroad. Content learning: 100 hours length. 3) Linguistic Immersion Programs for students. These will be held annually, will include 3.500 students and will be carried out in the context of European Education Programs. Multilingual Plan in CLM (2009-2013)
4) The plan takes into account also adults and foreigners, and includes Spanish courses in Escuelas Oficiales de Idiomas , Adults Centers and so on. 5) To teach Spanish to foreigners but always maintaining their culture. In order to do that, agreements have already been made with Rumania and Morocco. 6) Everybody has the right to take an official exam and to obtain a certificate assessing their competence level. 7) Library resources will be revised in order to update language resources. Andalucía: Pioneer in Foreign Language Teaching Andalucía was the first region to carry out an experimental program to teach one foreign language in the second cycle of Kindergarten education and first cycle of Primary education. Bilingual Centers in Andalucía 2010-2011. There will be a significant increase of bilingual public centers (68) in Andalucía with a total of 762, divided between Primary and Secondary schools. (English: 693, French 69, German 12). Additionally, 21 bilingual degrees in professional training courses (FP) will be offered. Portuguese will be offered as an elective class in 6 Secondary schools in Huelva. Around 70.000 students will be given the opportunity to study in a bilingual school, starting in Kindergarten. There will be 4.340 teachers in these centers, who will have 1244 conversation native assistants. Regarding other provinces, the amount of new bilingual centers are as follows: Sevilla (15), Málaga (12), Cadiz (10), Granada (8), Córdoba (7), Jaen (6), Almeria (5) and Huelva (5).

Requirements to become a teacher in a bilingual school in Andalucía 1) To hold a teacher education bachelor degree or any other higher education degree. 2) To have a teaching certificate (CAP) or Master's Degree in Secondary Education, in the case of Secondary School Teaching. Except Primary School and Vocational Schools. 3) All foreign language studies must be legalized through the “ Consejería de Educación de Andalucía ” or all its “ Delegaciones o Subdelegaciones provinciales de Educación de Andalucía ”.

General Aspects More Language training and orientation will be offered to p rofessionals who want to develop their professional skills. Other specific programs are: 1) Bilingual Education Centers. Creation of a network of education centers of over 400 centers distributed in Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary Schools. Both mother language and foreign languages will be used to teach all subjects. Additionally, the teaching hours for L2 will increase. The number of qualified teachers and native speaker assistants will increase and provide first hand cultural knowledge to students and teachers 2) Escuelas Oficiales de Idiomas. Programs offered on site and online will be divided in 3 levels. 3) Linguistic Immersion Programs for teachers. In order to improve the learning of foreign languages, teachers will be offered training such as “Escuela Oficial de Idiomas” and Teachers Training Centers abroad in immersion classes at Universities (programs Grundtvig or Comenius). Bilingual centers: Comparison between Andalucía and Castilla la Mancha The bilingual program was set in Andalucía in the year 2000 and in Castilla la Mancha in 2005. In Andalucía, in the years 2010-2011, there are 762 bilingual public centers and in Castilla la Mancha 183. There are 4320 teachers in bilingual centers in Andalucía of which 1244 are native speakers. In contrast, in Castilla La Mancha there are 1300 teachers, 214 natives.
Bilingual centers: Comparison between Andalucía and Castilla la Mancha In Andalucía 70.000 students have the opportunity to study in a bilingual school, while in Castilla La Mancha there are only 32.000 students. The requirements to become a teacher in a bilingual High school are the same in both regions. Both regions share the same objectives in their plurilingual plan. END
