2. Criterion A Assessment task for Year 9
This is a PRE & POST GAME STRATEGY AND OBSERVATION task
1. My name: Yu Class 9E My Opponent Bprem
2. Describe the strategy that you plan to use to defeat your opponent. Remember to justify your
choice of strategy. (Use many badminton terms appropriately).
Bprem is a very accurate player with a decent agility maybe because he is a tennis player as well.
Although Bprem might be someone at the same level as me but he still have weaknesses. I will start
with my serving plan, for my serving plan I will use a very long serve using my wrist to send the
shuttlecock deep into the other side of the court. Doing this has a high risk of going out but I think I am
capable of doing this which is why it’s worth a try. I have played with Bprem for the past lesson and
studies his gameplay. Bprem always start his play with a long shot which I will counter by using my
overhead dropshot to the right and left side of the net. After the shot is done, Bprem will usually need
to clear it high which enables me to do a decent smash which will hopefully be enough to get a point.
If this plan does not work I will use my second plan which is really simple, the main focus of this plan
is to move Bprem around the court. I will hit the ball left and right and to the back of the court and
when he fails to receive I might be able to smash. I think this other plan will work because Bprem is
not swift.
3. Play the match
4. What was the outcome of the match? Score: 21-15 I WON LOST (circle one)
5. (a) Was your strategy successful? (b) Did you adjust your plan? Why or why not?
The first plan was really effective in the begging of the game because everything was as planned.
Bprem would always end up hitting a high clear which ends up really close to the net which enables
me to smash the ball right down. During the game I have noticed that Bprem is getting the hang of my
plan which is why I change my plan. Luckily I had another plan prepared which was why it didn’t take
that long to finish him after changing the plan. I think that both plan worked pretty well and having a
plan B is pretty nice.
6. If you were going to play this opponent again what things would you like to try differently?
During the game I have lost some points from being too aggressive or smashing when I’m not
supposed to. Sometimes I should think about making points from net shots or drop shots not just
smashing because with Bprem’s average speed these shots can be very successful.
7. Assume that this would be a medal match at an upcoming competition. How might you train to
improve your chances against this opponent? What specific skills or tactics do you need, to improve
your game?
Although using the overhead drop shot receives after the Bprem’s serve is really effective there is a
high risk of not hitting it over. Even in the game with Bprem today I have lost some points making
mistakes from the overhead drop shot. This is why I think mastering my overhead drop shot will make
my plan even more efficient.
