In 2013, Airbnb launched a global disaster response initiative to allow Airbnb hosts to provide accommodation for people in need when disasters strike. Examples in London, Paris, the Balkans, New York and the Philippines to mention just a few. In this keynote, Airbnb provided first-hand experience of how their members are playing an important role in supporting citizens during disasters.

Since then, we’ve created a global program where we can respond to natural disasters anywhere in the world. Most recently, we’ve responded to the earthquake in Nepal.
These are the kind of stories that demonstrate the social impacts of this kind of activity. I don’t know how to quantify them, but you can see what kind of generosity, cultural understand and tolerance this can create around the world.
