3. ELON, NORTH CAROLINA
North Carolina is located on the Atlantic Coast in the East of the United States and
has an Appalachian Mountain Range in the West.
Most of the state is categorized as a humid subtropical climate.
It is a zone of the subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild to cool
winters.
5. Weather
In the summer the average
temperature is around 32 degrees
and in the winter around 10
degrees.
There is an average of 45 inches of
rain a year, mostly happening in
the spring.
In the center of the state, (Raleigh)
it snows about 9 inches a year, but
it doesn’t usually snow along the
coast.
6. Wildlife
Common mammals include bears, foxes,
deer, squirrels, alligators and snakes.
There are a variety of trees in North
Carolina including red spruce, cherry
tree, red maple, oak and sugar maple.
7. Climate Change
Air pollution – climate change is making
smog worse and causes plants to produce
more pollen causing an increase in health
problems, especially for people with
allergies and asthma.
Extreme heat, storms, flooding and
droughts in the summer are also
becoming more common.
