1. Dental Implant Surgeons in Scottsdale AZ Explain Key Differences Between Implants
and Older Teeth Technologies, PART 3
This four-part article series presents the important differences in
function, aesthetics and longevity of the various teeth replacement
technologies available on the market.
Welcome to the third installment of this four-part article series about the different
conventional teeth replacement technologies and how they compare with dental implants.
There would seem to be a pervasive lack of understanding of just what is available to you
should you require a new tooth or teeth and so, in this four-part article series, some
experienced dental implant surgeons in Scottsdale AZ are explaining what you should
know about your dental options. And we’re doing this by comparing the capabilities of the
more traditional approaches to teeth replacement to that of modern dental implants.
Part 1, we introduced partial dentures as a teeth replacement solution often chosen by
Arizona residents who have lost several teeth over the years. While they can come as a
relief to those who have struggled with loose and failing teeth for a long time, they do come
with several problems, so let’s take a look at those now…

What’s wrong with partial bridges?
“Partial bridges just aren’t the best long-term solution for a failing dentition. They only
replace the crowns of the missing teeth, which means that the underlying jawbone lies
neglected and unexercised. Over time, the resultant hard tissue atrophy can truly devastate
your oral health and the appearance of your smile,” says a dentist in Scottsdale.
“Additionally, the metal hooks which are attached to the neighboring healthy teeth to
stabilize the denture often end up breaking down, damaging and decaying these teeth.
Essentially, partial dentures can put you on the fast track to becoming totally edentulous
(toothless). This isn’t even to mention the challenges involved with wearing a removable
2. set of teeth, which includes difficulty eating, a low self-esteem, problems articulating in
speech and having to take them out for cleaning and at night.”
How to dental implants differ?
Dental implants provide Arizona residents with fixed, permanent solution to missing teeth
without affecting or damaging your remaining healthy teeth. Also, because they’re non-
removable, it’ll be very similar to having a full set of natural teeth again, which has
wonderful aesthetic, functional and comfort benefits, not to mention the promotion of a
much better quality of life.
Taking a Closer Look at Traditional Removable Dentures
Removable dentures are an age-old dental technology used to provide patients who have
lost most of their teeth (usually to gum disease) with a complete set of teeth again. They are
fabricated from bulky plastic material and quite closely resemble a full set of teeth.
Dentures are removable appliances that rely on their bulk and the gums to provide them
with the support they need to function like a set of teeth.
What’s right with removable dentures?
Similar to partial dentures, having a new set of teeth fitted can seem like a considerable
relief after years of living with a broken down, deteriorated dentition. They can seem far
more comfortable to eat with and are certainly a remarkable cosmetic improvement upon a
gum disease riddled mouth. But the joys of dentures are short-lived, according to many
Arizona dental implant surgeons, for as soon as you become accustomed to the novelty
of having an attractive smile again, you become aware of the myriad of challenges, hidden
costs and discomforts they come hand-in-hand with.
All-in-all, removable dentures come with a hefty price tag (in dollar bills and in terms of
your quality of life) and they’re supposed to be the cheapest dental technology on the
market…
