3. The Story
Knockanstockan began with the idea that musicians needed to group together to share, showcase and ultimately celebrate their music with friends in order to crack the elusive
music industry. At venues around Dublin the collective of artists known as the ‘Primal Jelly Social Club’ burst onto an stagnant live music scene, creating new platforms for
themselves and the city’s other hard-working bands and performers. But more was needed.
In 2007, a small mini-camping festival and musical weekend in The Ballyknockan Inn o ered 40 acts ‘A musician’s festival for musicians’.
Knockanstockan was born!
The Community
The communities of Lacken and Ballyknockan have become an integral part of the Knockastockan music festival since it began in 2007.
The support and co-operation of the residents is vital to the continual growth and success of the festival. Everyone involved in Knockanstockan
believes that giving back to the community is a top priority, and to show our gratitude we have helped with many fundraising events.
To date we have helped to raise thousands for numerous community and youth initiatives within the area, that includes a new school,
and plans to build a new community center. We are proud to have been involved and we fully intend to continue helping in the best way we can.
Knockastockan would like to thank the community of Lacken/Ballyknockan for their patience and friendship over the years. Your support and
encouragement has helped Knockanstockan achieve many goals and grow to what we are today.
4. Kockanstockan 2011 Theme ‘Midsummer Nights Dream
’Over hill, over dale, Thorough bush, thorough brier, Over park, over pale, Thorough ood, thorough re, I do wander everywhere.
A fairy's answer to Puck's question, "whither wander you?"
Last year we choose the theme ‘A Midsummer Nights Dream’ using in uences from Art Nouveau to create the two main stage backdrops
The sun and Moon stage were based on Stained glass which was typical of the Nouveau style. With the introduction of a new area ‘The Faerie Field’
We worked with a faerie inspired theme that worked with the site to create and enchanting space for the audience to relax and chill out in away
From the main arena.
None of this would have been achieved without the dedication and talent of our volunteers .
We also introduced the Art trail which was made up of art pieces that had been submitted by artists from all around Ireland.
Each piece was based on aspects of the theme that the artist related to most.
‘ Our Knockanstockan experience was a wonderful one and overall it was a very welcoming and organised environment.
We thought everyone involved in managing the festival did a brilliant job and were approachable and helpful throughout! - Niamh
