2. Study and prepare for the theory test
Pick-up your copy of the New
Zealand road code
and make sure you read all of the chapters.
Practise the test online at
www.drivingtests.co.nz
for more convenience and to gain an
advantage (since the actual test is
also online).
3. Improve your memory with
proper exercise and sleep
Exercise promotes increased oxygen
circulation in the brain keeping it healthy
and functioning at its best condition.
Another benefit of exercise is that it leads to
a better sleep that boosts the problem
solving, critical thinking, and creative
thinking ability of the brain.
4. Create a similar test
environment and
conditions
Mimicking the actual test conditions will
get your brain ready.
Practise driving, manoeuvering, and parking with
a supervisor; and practise the theory test online
at www.drivingtests.co.nz.
This makes it a lot easier for the brain to
remember facts during the actual test
because it associates the test conditions with
the practise conditions.
5. Eat a healthy and light meal before
going to your driving test
Eat just the right amount to feel satisfied but not
too much to make you feel full.
If you eat a big meal before the exam,
you are most likely to feel sleepy and lethargic.
6. Prepare and come
early for the exam
Come in 20 minutes earlier than
the booking time, this will allow you
to complete all the paperwork and
identification requirements before
you proceed to your test.
Once finished with all the paperwork
requirements, you can practise the
driving test on your mobile device
while waiting for the exam to begin.
7. Relax and stay as calm as possible
As you go to and through the exam, make
sure you take slow and deep breaths.
Taking deep breaths calms the nerves
and muscles, therefore relaxing the
body.
8. Build rapport with the examiner
You will not earn points by doing this, but at
the end of the day, the examiner has the
decision to make regarding your driving
test, and it’s always easier to decide for a
nice person than for someone who isn’t.
9. It’s OK to ask questions
If you are uncertain about anything
regarding instructions or directions,
don’t hesitate to ask
your examiner.
It’s better to clarify things first
than to proceed with a wrong perception
especially during a practical driving test.
10. Keep your focus
Keep your focus on the road
and on your driving.
Don’t be distracted by anything including what
the examiner is writing in the evaluation paper.
11. Keep your head and eyes
moving in the right direction
Examiners want to see that you practise
good road awareness and safe driving.
Make sure that the examiner notices that you are
constantly checking your mirrors, don’t forget to signal
and to look behind after checking the mirrors each time
you change lanes or use an intersection.
12. and you’ll have an improved
chance of passing your test the
first time.
