Good Stuff Happens in 1:1 Meetings: Why you need them and how to do them well

1. THE LEAN GREEN
PULP MOLDING MACHINE
Green Manufacturing Gone
Full Triangle
Innovative pulp paper system recycles energy, reuses
water, and makes new biodegradable products from
recycled paper.
2. DKM’s Green Approach
Why use pulp molded packaging?
Pulp molded packaging can be
created from typical recyclable
materials such as newspaper,
corrugated cardboard, &
shredded office paper but many
other fibrous materials can be
used including chicken feathers,
cow manure, and algae. All are
biodegradable and decrease
waste that would go into
landfills. Pulp molded packaging
is also reusable.
Why sell pulp packaging?
Being green brings
green. Pulp molded
packaging can be
produced economically
and sold for a reasonable
profit. Using recycled
product lowers material
cost.
Demand for green
products is higher than it
has ever been.
Why DKM’s Pulp Molding System?
Our pulp molding system helps to
create sustainable business. Our
efficient molders and dryers reduce
the energy used during the process
when compared to other
manufacturers. Not only do we
believe in reducing energy inputs,
but we also believe in recapturing
and reusing these energy inputs.
Saving money while reducing our
ecological footprint is just good
business.
3. Since you may not be an expert on pulp molding systems, we’ve included a
brief video of one of our machines that is currently in use at another plant.
4. What sets our system apart…Unique water and
energy recovery system.
Our conveyer dryer has a unique heat recovery
system. These systems capture the heat energy in
the exhaust, instead of venting it out into the
atmosphere. There are four separate heat exchange
systems in our dryers. One takes exhaust heat
energy back to the process water system. The
others collect heat energy in the exhaust system and
return it back to the dryer by means of a make up air
fan. Temperature is set manually in each of zone and
controlled automatically. The first zone can be
extremely hot without causing damage to the
product. This will accelerate the drying process. The
second and third zones are cooler. The last zone has
a humidistat on it to control the exhaust. Since up
to 50% of the cost in the drying process is heating
the make up air, This process can reduce the use of
fuel in the dryer by up to 40%.

5. As a result of these heat recovery systems water is also
recovered and returned back to the process system
through the use of gravity. We also capture energy from
the seal water of the vacuum pump to reduce the need for
a cooling tower. This process captures energy, and returns
it back to the process water using a passive heat
exchanger. The end result is recovered energy that can be
used in the pulper to reduce pulping time. The warm pulp
will increase drainage in the forming process. The result
will be tighter formed product with less moisture that dries
easier. This increases production by up to 20% and makes
a better product.
What else sets us apart... Manufacturing in Stainless Steel
Stainless steel will last longer reducing the need for
replacement and is easier to maintain.
Stainless steel is used in areas that come in contact with the
pulp, compressed air and process water system. The
molding platen and transfer platen are also fabricated from
stainless steel.

6. But… That is what we already do
What we want to do… Build a system 20-30% more energy efficiency
than our current systems.
What we need… Capital for research, development and testing to
make this a reality. Work on this has already begun and it is currently
close to 25% complete. We have been able to do a bit here and a bit
there as budget allows since moving to Jacksonville last summer.
What we have…Staff with over 60 years combined experience in
manufacturing. Experience designing and manufacturing pulp molding
systems since 1992.
What our ultimate goal is… To begin producing and distributing pulp
molded products in Jacksonville. We feel that Jacksonville is the ideal
place for green manufacturing and we can give back to our city by
bringing jobs to the area and becoming an area recycle center.
