City Naming and Sponsorship Policy

2. Current Naming Policy
• Addresses naming of City facilities and sub-facilities
Facilities: Major City-owned buildings, Parks, Trails built
for permanent use
Sub facilities: Swimming pools, Pavilions, Tennis courts,
Large water features, Trail sections, Meeting rooms

3. Current Naming Policy
• Addresses naming of City facilities and sub-facilities
• Be descriptive of geographic location
• Commemorate historical events, groups, or individuals of
continued importance to the City, region, State, and/or
Nation
• Commemorate individuals who are deceased and have a
history of exceptional community service or contributions
to the facility
• Commemorate individuals who made significant
contributions to the City’s acquisition or development of
the facility.

4. Current Naming Policy
• Addresses naming of City facilities and sub-facilities
• Recognize organizations that have made significant
financial or capital contributions to the acquisition or
development of the facility. This includes any Naming
Rights Agreement approved by City Council.
• Have historical, cultural, or social significance
• Research indicates that the facility or area around the
facility has been commonly named in an unofficial
capacity by residents.

5. Sponsorship Policy
The proposed Policy’s focus is on Sponsorships
and requests for City support. The Policy includes
guidelines, criteria, approval hierarchy,
restrictions, and procedures for application.
Part 1: When City asks for donations/sponsors for its facilities,
properties, special events, and tournaments.
Part 2: When groups or individuals ask the City for support or
sponsorship (financial or in-kind) of their event, program, or
service.

8. Part 2:
• Examples of sponsorship and support requests
• Waiving of rental fees for use of City pavilions,
parks, buildings, etc.
• Use of City resources such as street barricades,
traffic cones, equipment, bleachers, advertising
and marketing, etc.
• Use of City staff for support – Public Works, Police,
Parks and Rec, Fire, Public Communications, etc.
• Cash

9. Criteria for City Support Consideration:
• Does the City have adequate funds and resources
available to consider sponsorship/support?
• Is the event in line with the City mission, goals,
and organizational philosophies?
• Does the applicant operate locally?
• Is the organization a 501 (c)(3)?
• Is the event of general interest to the public?
• Does a minimum of 40% of the funds raised
directly benefit the College Station community?

10. Sponsorship Policy
The proposed Policy is intended to be at City
Manager level approval. Sponsorship agreements
that are valued at $50,000 or more, or at the
discretion of the City Manager, will be brought
before the City Council for discussion and
approval.
