3. Incremental Releases
• New application versions are not usually a redeployment
of the complete application, but rather updates to a
subset of application components
– This fits the needs of continuous delivery
• Deploy and test a new version of the application side by
side with the old version.
– You can switch over to the new version when ready

4. Canary Releases
• A type of incremental application release which deploys
a new version of an application to a (small) subset of
users (“canary in a coal mine”)
– Lowers risk
– Can also be used for A-B testing
• Results in a production environment with two side-by-
side application versions running in parallel
– Application support is a must
• If successful, the new version is deployed to rest of the
production environment
