Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a disease
characterized by damage of the
protective myelin sheath around the
axons of the neural cells of the Central
Nervous System. It is an autoimmune
disease which is inflammatory in
nature. It is also known as
Encephomyelitis dissemineta or
Disseminated sclerosis. Women are
more prone to the disease as
compared to men and as far as age is
concerned, the people pertaining to
age group of 20-30 years have a greater tendency for the same as compared to others. MS
symptoms are a lot in number because the central nervous system, which comprises of brain and
spinal cord, control the function of whole of the body. So, in case, any damage occurs to them,
almost every part of the body would get affected.
The symptoms may be there from weeks to months and they may subside on their own.
Reoccurrence is again common in case of multiple sclerosis. Fatigue most common amongst MS
symptoms and the rest of them are discussed below. Since, it is the nervous system which is
involved, initial problems would be loss of sensation, loss of memory, loss of hearing, dizziness and
there would be difficulty to concentrate for a long time. Headache can be there for a longer span.
General weakness in the body would be there because of the weakness in the muscles. There would
be difficulty in walking and there would also be problem in maintaining the balance and
equilibrium of the body. Movement in the arms and feet also becomes problematic and the person
may have tremors as well. Eyes also show some of the common symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis
Treatment. The vision gets impaired and there is difficulty in focusing the object. The eyes start
hurting after short duration if some object is seen continuously. Double vision can also be there.
Coming to the symptoms related to gastor-intestinal tract and urinary tract, there is constipation as
the patient is not able to have proper digestion of the ingested food. Along with that, the muscles of
the urinary system become weak leading to leakage of urine and stools and that is why, the person
has to frequently pass urine.
Spasm of the muscles is again a common symptom as every muscle derives its nerve supply from
the nerves of brain and spinal cord. So there is severe pain including pain in the muscles which
supply the face.

be suffering from Multiple Sclerosis. The intensity and frequency of the above mentioned
symptoms vary from person to person.
