Summer Camp
2014
Chesterfield Day School camps are developed and taught
by experienced teachers who provide creative, hands-on
themed sessions with a committment to the Chesterfield
Day School philosophy.
Daily Camp Schedule
Camp programs are available in both half-day and full-
day increments.
Toddler/Preschool/Kindergarten
Half day-8:30 am-11:30 am
Full day-8:30 am-3:00 pm
Grades 1-6
Half day-8:30 am-11:30 am or 12:00 pm-3:00 pm
Full day-8:30 am-3:00 pm
For an additional fee, before and after care are available
for students during the following hours:
Before care-	 7:00 am-8:30 am
		
After care-	 3:00 pm-5:00 pm
There is no camp on July 4, 2014.
Billing  Payment
To register for camp,
visit www.chesterfielddayschool.org/summer and com-
plete the camp registration form. Payment is due in full
in order for registration to be complete. Campers will not
be allowed to attend a session until payment is received.
Before and after care fees are payable by the first day of
the camp session enrolled.
Multi-Session Discount and Referral Credit
Sign up for 3 or more sessions and receive 10% off per
student. Current CDS families will receive a $25 tuition
credit for 2014-15 if they are identified by non-CDS fami-
lies as referring them to our Summer Program.
Lunch
Full day camp participants should bring a non-refriger-
ated lunch daily, including drink. Snacks will be pro-
vided to toddler and preschool aged students. Students
in grades 1-6 are welcome to bring in snacks of their
own. Allergy concerns? Please email summerprogram@
chesterfielddayschool.org or call 314-469-6622 to discuss
accommodations.
Student Possessions
Be sure to clearly mark all student posessions such as
bookbags, coats, lunch boxes, etc., with first and last
name. Detailed information on what to bring to camp,
daily routines, etc., will be sent prior to the beginning of
camp.
Program Cancellation
Chesterfield Day School reserves the right to cancel any
program or service that does not reach an acceptable
level of enrollment. Registered participants for a can-
celled program will receive a full refund; notice of any
cancellation will be provided no later than 5/15/14.
Participant Conduct
Our priorities at CDS are safety, learning, and fun for all
camp participants. Children enrolled in CDS camps are
expected to be polite to their fellow campers, teachers,
and other School personnel.

General Camp Information
Come join us for fun while exploring the outdoors! In addition to continuing with a familiar school routine in the
Montessori environment, we will experience nature through art, water play, movement activities, walks, exploring and
collecting objects from nature. The children will love working with flowers, insects and other favorite nature objects.
Enrollment is limited to toddlers (ages 18 months to 3 years) who have been part of the Chesterfield Day School pro-
gram, or who plan to enroll in the CDS toddler or preschool program in the fall of 2014-15.

Prince  Princess Academy, Lead Teacher - Helene Behrend
Welcome to Prince  Princess Academy at Chesterfield Day School! We are so excited to travel to far off lands through our imagina-
tion and escape into a new fairytale each day. There will be knights, dragons, frogs, and treasures to be found. And of course, we will
learn all about how to be a prince or princess! We are excited for you to come visit our castle, and be sure to bring your imagination!
Session 2 - 6/23/2014-7/3/2014
Diving Under the Sea, Lead Teacher - Ashley Drackert
Come explore everything our world’s oceans have to share! During this session, students will learn about the Earth’s oceans, the plant
and animal life found under the waves, and how tides are formed. Students will also learn why the ocean is important to us and how
we can help protect the wildlife found around the beach. Arts and crafts, music, games, theater, and interactive learning activities will
help bring the ocean to CDS!
Session 3 - 7/7/2014-7/18/2014
In the Garden, Lead Teacher - Ashley Drackert
In this session, students will dig deep within the dirt of the CDS garden to investigate the plant and animal life found in and around
gardens. What makes plants grow? How do insects help our gardens? What is composting? Students will explore the life cycle of flow-
ers, fruits, and vegetables and will learn how items from the garden can be used for cooking, art, and more.
Session 4 - 7/21/2014-8/1/2014
Week 1: CDS Summer Olympics, Lead Teacher - Ashley Drackert
Cooperation and teamwork will highlight this session. Students will explore the history of the Olympics, what the colored rings rep-
resent, and learn how the world’s various cultures are shared through team sports and games. The session will include many outdoor
activities including soccer, baseball, dancing, bowling, etc. Children will work together to learn about the countries represented in the
games through music, games, and crafts.
Week 2: Fun with Art, Lead Teacher - Helene Behrend
Come discover your creative side this summer at Chesterfield Day School! Get ready to explore art both indoors and out as we build
and construct, cut and glue, paint and draw, and so much more! With finger paints, chalk, and easel painting, it is going to be messy
fun!

More Fun with Art, Lead Teacher - Helene Behrend
Come discover more of your creative side this summer at Chesterfield Day School! As an extension of Fun with Art, get ready to ex-
plore art both indoors and out as we build and construct, cut and glue, paint and draw, and so much more! With finger paints, chalk,
and easel painting, it is going to be messy fun!

Morning Session Option #1: Laughing Turtle Yoga, Lead Teacher - Diane Villani
In Yoga camp children come together in a welcoming environment to learn about themselves and the world around them. Students
will learn poses, play games and explore their body and place in the world.
Morning Session Option #2: KidzArt, Lead Teacher - Zolie Prior
Grab your jungle hats, we’re going on safari! During our first week in KidArt check out all kinds of cool creatures and the places they
live in the jungle. Learn how to draw some of your favorite animals and other creative project. In our second week we continue our
travels to the Caribbean where the sun is always shining! We will take our art under the sea, surfing, and even maybe see a Macaw or
two. Packed with 2-D and 3-D projects, anyone can be an artist!
Afternoon Session Option #1: Adventure Theatre Camp, Lead Teacher - Donna and Aliyah Warwick
Get ready to take a unique journey to the enchanted land of Cascadia this summer! No previous acting experience is required, as
every child gets to play the role that he or she wants to play in this exciting original tale involving knights, tigers, fairies, princesses,
dragons, mermaids, mythical birds and much more! Students may choose what they want to wear each day from a wide variety of
colorful costumes. We will also make props/crafts, explore pantomime/creative movement and play improvisational theatre games as
we continue on our magical voyage.
Afternoon Session Option #2: Chess is Tactics
Learn this ancient game using the simple method of thematic tactical study. Lessons offer puzzles, theory, practice and competition.
Students will see tactics, learn patterns, and recognize the power of the pieces. We will cover numerous examples and amazing com-
binations stemming from such themes as the pin, fork, double attack, discovered check, and the dreaded double check. All classes are
taught by a certified chess coach from the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis.
Session 2 - 6/23/2014-7/3/2014
Morning Session: HiNRG Gymnastics
Our FUN well-developed HiNRG curriculum begins with SAFETY in mind, and then builds life skills as well as gymnastics skills.
Our curriculum is designed to build confidence: learn new skills and inspire an “I CAN” attitude and increase strength and coordina-
tion. Gymnastics inherently improves healthy movement by requiring full-body motion, teaching proper stretching, and developing
agility and body awareness. It will be rewarding for your child to demonstrate his/her newly acquired skills while “playing gymnas-
tics!” We are happy to provide the BEST GYMNASTICS INSTRUCTION in St. Louis at Chesterfield Day School!
Afternoon Session Option #1: Cooking with Dough, Lead Teacher - Alejandra Flores
Cooking with Dough will promote healthy living, exotic food tasting, teach measurement skills, practice procedure reading, and
help students learn new vocabulary while creating delicious recipes. This will also introduce students to different fruit and vegetable
varieties. The cooking experience is a wonderful opportunity to expose your child to new foods that encourage them to expand their
culinary palates. Let’s roll up our sleeves, feel the ingredients between our fingers, and get ready to slice and dice!

Our experienced staff study the game at all levels and we have identified the key techniques and skills that your players need to work
on and master to reach their true potential. Emphasis is placed upon individual skill development, core techniques and small sided
games. The Challenger coaching staff provides your child with lessons in respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship and leader-
ship. Each child receives a soccer ball, t-shirt, replica jersey and player evaluation - over $100 of free gifts!
Afternoon Session Option #1: Math Games, Lead Teacher - Alissa White
Come and play both new and familiar games while you enhance your math skills! Have fun while using strategy and logic to play
classic games such as Chinese checkers, Monopoly, Battleship, Yahtzee, and Blokus. Students will use this knowledge and their cre-
ativity to design their OWN game!
Afternoon Session Option #2: Clay Fun! - Ashley Carr
Campers will enjoy themselves while learning pinch, coil, and slab clay building techniques. Students will become familiar with the
entire process of creating a piece of art from clay. Art work will range from greenwear, bisque, and glazed fired techniques. Other
materials will be used to add color to bisque-fired clay. Come for fun- CLAY FUN!
GRADES1-3
GRADES3-6 Session 1 - 6/9/2014-6/20/2014
Morning Session Option # 1: HiNRG 3-6 Tumbling
HiNRG tumbling classes are designed to maximize safety and proper technique while helping athletes achieve their tumbling goals.
Students will learn the importance of strength training and proper skill progression. Basic tumbling will include handstands, for-
ward and background rolls, cartwheels, round-offs, etc. We emphasize fitness and mental preparedness as well as inspire confidence.
Your son/daughter will have a FUN, SAFE, and PRODUCTIVE experience. We look forward to serving your children!
Morning Session Option #2: Lego Robotics, Lead Teacher - Erik Taylor
NASA is in the midst of developing a new Space Transportation System to carry humans and cargo to the International Space Sta-
tion, the moon, and beyond. This camp session is offered to give 4th, 5th and 6th graders an opportunity to take part in the en-
gineering processes required to develop these vehicles. Rocketry, robotics, and architectural design will all be utilized to provide
students a chance to take part in the space race to establish permanent colonies beyond Earth.
Afternoon Session Option #1: Humor, Improv, and Satire, Lead Teacher - Susan Cantonwine
Do you like to laugh out loud? If the answer is yes, this introduction to basic improvisation and comedic acting techniques is for
you. Participants will create original skits, learn classic routines such as Laurel and Hardy’s “Who’s on First?” and memorize one-lin-
ers that are sure to please. Students will also experiment with basic improvisation and comedic acting techniques. On the final day,
the students will perform their acts or show their video to the class. Whether your interest is performing, cracking wise, or making
videos that make everyone laugh, this camp is the perfect outlet.

Afternoon Session Option #3: Geometry Enrichment, Lead Teacher - Susie Sullivan
Come enjoy the world of geometry! This camp will explore basic shapes, learn to measure angles, and problem solve for unknown
angles given several geometric forms using the premises learned. Mathematician or not, you are sure to have a great time!
Session 2 - 6/23/2014-7/3/2014
Morning Session Option #1: Sports with Coach L, Lead Teacher - Ryan Lancaster
On your mark, get set, go! Join Coach Lancaster this session for two weeks of your favorite sports and games. This session will
include a wide variety of developmental games, team sports, individual sports, and awesome group activities. Some of the exciting
activities included are Gym Pong, Basketball, Soccer, 16” Softball, Team Handball, Fitness Ball, Giant Volleyball, floor hockey, and
much more! This camp will focus on teamwork, good sportsmanship and having fun.
Morning Session Option #2: Challenger Soccer

Can you build the tallest tower or strongest bridge with limited resources? Come join us to explore engineering and architecture. We
will experiment with hands-on challenges, learn more about structures, and test the weight capacity of toothpick bridges you will
build!
Afternoon Session Option #2: Chess is Tactics
Learn this ancient game using the simple method of thematic tactical study. Lessons offer puzzles, theory, practice and competition.
Students will see tactics, learn patterns, and recognize the power of the pieces. We will cover numerous examples and amazing com-
binations stemming from such themes as the pin, fork, double attack, discovered check, and the dreaded double check. All classes

Session 3 - 7/7/2014-7/18/2014
Morning Session Option # 1: Baseball/Softball, Lead Teacher - Sandy Melnick
Students will have a chance to become more proficient in their baseball and softball skills and become more knowledgeable in the
sport. They will learn not only how to do a certain skill physically, but also why they do that skill and why it’s important. These skills
include hitting, fielding, throwing and running. Students will develop these abilities by repetition of activities and playing different
types of games to enhance their skill level.

Morning Session Option # 2: Lego-Robotics and Junior Achievement Our City
Sumo-Robotics (Week 1 - 7/7/14-7/11/14)
Experience the thrill of Lego Robotics! Students will be challenged to build and program their own robots, relying on the skills they
have developed leveraging strategies to create solutions using LEGO Mindstorms NXT. Students will master certain program blocks
of the LEGO Mindstorms NXT-G programming interface -- a kid-friendly, icon-based drag-and-drop programming environment to
be used to create unique robotic programs.
Junior Achievement Our City (Week 2 7/14/14-7/18/14)
JA Our City introduces students to the characteristics of cities and how cities are shaped by zoning. Students also learn about the
importance of money to a city; how financial institutions help businesses and city residents; and how the media is an integral part of
a city’s life. Students learn the role of an entrepreneur by exploring what it takes to open a restaurant.
Afternoon Session Option #1: Got GPS?, Lead Teacher - Donna Bancroft
Navigating your way on our planet is a much needed life skill! Let’s add some fun to navigation! Learn about global positioning, and
use handheld GPS devices to find hidden caches at summer camp! You may get to create and hide a cache for other campers!
Afternoon Session Option #2: Kitchen Science, Lead Teacher - Chef Matt
In Chef Matt’s “Kitchen Science” camp, we learn hands on, how science and our food cycle are intertwined. We will build solar
ovens, make ice cream, develop our awareness of all five senses, and even explore basic cheese making. Students will gain a better
understanding of our food from the garden to our plates. So come learn something new, have some fun, and eat!

  • 1. Fun Under the Sun! READY. SET. LAUNCH. Summer Camp 2014
  • 2. Chesterfield Day School camps are developed and taught by experienced teachers who provide creative, hands-on themed sessions with a committment to the Chesterfield Day School philosophy. Daily Camp Schedule Camp programs are available in both half-day and full- day increments. Toddler/Preschool/Kindergarten Half day-8:30 am-11:30 am Full day-8:30 am-3:00 pm Grades 1-6 Half day-8:30 am-11:30 am or 12:00 pm-3:00 pm Full day-8:30 am-3:00 pm For an additional fee, before and after care are available for students during the following hours: Before care- 7:00 am-8:30 am After care- 3:00 pm-5:00 pm There is no camp on July 4, 2014. Billing Payment To register for camp, visit www.chesterfielddayschool.org/summer and com- plete the camp registration form. Payment is due in full in order for registration to be complete. Campers will not be allowed to attend a session until payment is received. Before and after care fees are payable by the first day of the camp session enrolled. Multi-Session Discount and Referral Credit Sign up for 3 or more sessions and receive 10% off per student. Current CDS families will receive a $25 tuition credit for 2014-15 if they are identified by non-CDS fami- lies as referring them to our Summer Program. Lunch Full day camp participants should bring a non-refriger- ated lunch daily, including drink. Snacks will be pro- vided to toddler and preschool aged students. Students in grades 1-6 are welcome to bring in snacks of their own. Allergy concerns? Please email summerprogram@ chesterfielddayschool.org or call 314-469-6622 to discuss accommodations. Student Possessions Be sure to clearly mark all student posessions such as bookbags, coats, lunch boxes, etc., with first and last name. Detailed information on what to bring to camp, daily routines, etc., will be sent prior to the beginning of camp. Program Cancellation Chesterfield Day School reserves the right to cancel any program or service that does not reach an acceptable level of enrollment. Registered participants for a can- celled program will receive a full refund; notice of any cancellation will be provided no later than 5/15/14. Participant Conduct Our priorities at CDS are safety, learning, and fun for all camp participants.   • 3. Come join us for fun while exploring the outdoors! In addition to continuing with a familiar school routine in the Montessori environment, we will experience nature through art, water play, movement activities, walks, exploring and collecting objects from nature. The children will love working with flowers, insects and other favorite nature objects. Enrollment is limited to toddlers (ages 18 months to 3 years) who have been part of the Chesterfield Day School pro- gram, or who plan to enroll in the CDS toddler or preschool program in the fall of 2014-15.   • 4. Session 1 - 6/9/2014-6/20/2014 Prince Princess Academy, Lead Teacher - Helene Behrend Welcome to Prince Princess Academy at Chesterfield Day School! We are so excited to travel to far off lands through our imagina- tion and escape into a new fairytale each day. There will be knights, dragons, frogs, and treasures to be found. And of course, we will learn all about how to be a prince or princess! We are excited for you to come visit our castle, and be sure to bring your imagination! Session 2 - 6/23/2014-7/3/2014 Diving Under the Sea, Lead Teacher - Ashley Drackert Come explore everything our world’s oceans have to share! During this session, students will learn about the Earth’s oceans, the plant and animal life found under the waves, and how tides are formed. Students will also learn why the ocean is important to us and how we can help protect the wildlife found around the beach. Arts and crafts, music, games, theater, and interactive learning activities will help bring the ocean to CDS! Session 3 - 7/7/2014-7/18/2014 In the Garden, Lead Teacher - Ashley Drackert In this session, students will dig deep within the dirt of the CDS garden to investigate the plant and animal life found in and around gardens. What makes plants grow? How do insects help our gardens? What is composting? Students will explore the life cycle of flow- ers, fruits, and vegetables and will learn how items from the garden can be used for cooking, art, and more. Session 4 - 7/21/2014-8/1/2014 Week 1: CDS Summer Olympics, Lead Teacher - Ashley Drackert Cooperation and teamwork will highlight this session. Students will explore the history of the Olympics, what the colored rings rep- resent, and learn how the world’s various cultures are shared through team sports and games. The session will include many outdoor activities including soccer, baseball, dancing, bowling, etc. Children will work together to learn about the countries represented in the games through music, games, and crafts. Week 2: Fun with Art, Lead Teacher - Helene Behrend Come discover your creative side this summer at Chesterfield Day School! Get ready to explore art both indoors and out as we build and construct, cut and glue, paint and draw, and so much more! With finger paints, chalk, and easel painting, it is going to be messy fun! Session 5 - 8/4/2014-8/8/2014* More Fun with Art, Lead Teacher - Helene Behrend Come discover more of your creative side this summer at Chesterfield Day School! As an extension of Fun with Art, get ready to ex- plore art both indoors and out as we build and construct, cut and glue, paint and draw, and so much more! Session 1 - 6/9/2014-6/20/2014 Morning Session Option #1: Laughing Turtle Yoga, Lead Teacher - Diane Villani In Yoga camp children come together in a welcoming environment to learn about themselves and the world around them. Students will learn poses, play games and explore their body and place in the world. Morning Session Option #2: KidzArt, Lead Teacher - Zolie Prior Grab your jungle hats, we’re going on safari! During our first week in KidArt check out all kinds of cool creatures and the places they live in the jungle. Learn how to draw some of your favorite animals and other creative project. In our second week we continue our travels to the Caribbean where the sun is always shining! We will take our art under the sea, surfing, and even maybe see a Macaw or two. Packed with 2-D and 3-D projects, anyone can be an artist! Afternoon Session Option #1: Adventure Theatre Camp, Lead Teacher - Donna and Aliyah Warwick Get ready to take a unique journey to the enchanted land of Cascadia this summer! No previous acting experience is required, as every child gets to play the role that he or she wants to play in this exciting original tale involving knights, tigers, fairies, princesses, dragons, mermaids, mythical birds and much more! Students may choose what they want to wear each day from a wide variety of colorful costumes. We will also make props/crafts, explore pantomime/creative movement and play improvisational theatre games as we continue on our magical voyage. Afternoon Session Option #2: Chess is Tactics Learn this ancient game using the simple method of thematic tactical study. Lessons offer puzzles, theory, practice and competition. Students will see tactics, learn patterns, and recognize the power of the pieces. We will cover numerous examples and amazing com- binations stemming from such themes as the pin, fork, double attack, discovered check, and the dreaded double check. All classes are taught by a certified chess coach from the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis. Session 2 - 6/23/2014-7/3/2014 Morning Session: HiNRG Gymnastics Our FUN well-developed HiNRG curriculum begins with SAFETY in mind, and then builds life skills as well as gymnastics skills. Our curriculum is designed to build confidence: learn new skills and inspire an “I CAN” attitude and increase strength and coordina- tion. Gymnastics inherently improves healthy movement by requiring full-body motion, teaching proper stretching, and developing agility and body awareness. It will be rewarding for your child to demonstrate his/her newly acquired skills while “playing gymnas- tics!” We are happy to provide the BEST GYMNASTICS INSTRUCTION in St. Louis at Chesterfield Day School! Afternoon Session Option #1: Cooking with Dough, Lead Teacher - Alejandra Flores Cooking with Dough will promote healthy living, exotic food tasting, teach measurement skills, practice procedure reading, and help students learn new vocabulary while creating delicious recipes. This will also introduce students to different fruit and vegetable varieties. The cooking experience is a wonderful opportunity to expose your child to new foods that encourage them to expand their culinary palates. Let’s roll up our sleeves, feel the ingredients between our fingers, and get ready to slice and dice! Afternoon Session Option #2: Chess is Tactics Learn this ancient game using the simple method of thematic tactical study. Lessons offer puzzles, theory, practice and competition. Students will see tactics, learn patterns, and recognize the power of the pieces. We will cover numerous examples and amazing com- binations stemming from such themes as the pin, fork, double attack, discovered check, and the dreaded double check. All classes are taught by a certified chess coach from the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis. Session 3 - 7/7/2014-7/18/2014 Morning Session: Challenger Soccer Our experienced staff study the game at all levels and we have identified the key techniques and skills that your players need to work on and master to reach their true potential. Emphasis is placed upon individual skill development, core techniques and small sided games. The Challenger coaching staff provides your child with lessons in respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship and leader- ship. Each child receives a soccer ball, t-shirt, replica jersey and player evaluation - over $100 of free gifts! Afternoon Session Option #1: Math Games, Lead Teacher - Alissa White Come and play both new and familiar games while you enhance your math skills! Have fun while using strategy and logic to play classic games such as Chinese checkers, Monopoly, Battleship, Yahtzee, and Blokus. Students will use this knowledge and their cre- ativity to design their OWN game! Afternoon Session Option #2: Clay Fun! - Ashley Carr Campers will enjoy themselves while learning pinch, coil, and slab clay building techniques. Students will become familiar with the entire process of creating a piece of art from clay. Art work will range from greenwear, bisque, and glazed fired techniques. Other materials will be used to add color to bisque-fired clay. Come for fun- CLAY FUN! GRADES1-3

GRADES3-6 Session 1 - 6/9/2014-6/20/2014 Morning Session Option # 1: HiNRG 3-6 Tumbling HiNRG tumbling classes are designed to maximize safety and proper technique while helping athletes achieve their tumbling goals. Students will learn the importance of strength training and proper skill progression. Basic tumbling will include handstands, for- ward and background rolls, cartwheels, round-offs, etc. We emphasize fitness and mental preparedness as well as inspire confidence. Your son/daughter will have a FUN, SAFE, and PRODUCTIVE experience. We look forward to serving your children! Morning Session Option #2: Lego Robotics, Lead Teacher - Erik Taylor NASA is in the midst of developing a new Space Transportation System to carry humans and cargo to the International Space Sta- tion, the moon, and beyond. This camp session is offered to give 4th, 5th and 6th graders an opportunity to take part in the en- gineering processes required to develop these vehicles. Rocketry, robotics, and architectural design will all be utilized to provide students a chance to take part in the space race to establish permanent colonies beyond Earth. Afternoon Session Option #1: Humor, Improv, and Satire, Lead Teacher - Susan Cantonwine Do you like to laugh out loud? If the answer is yes, this introduction to basic improvisation and comedic acting techniques is for you. Participants will create original skits, learn classic routines such as Laurel and Hardy’s “Who’s on First?” and memorize one-lin- ers that are sure to please. Students will also experiment with basic improvisation and comedic acting techniques. On the final day, the students will perform their acts or show their video to the class. Whether your interest is performing, cracking wise, or making videos that make everyone laugh, this camp is the perfect outlet. Afternoon Session Option #2: Chess is Tactics Learn this ancient game using the simple method of thematic tactical study. Lessons offer puzzles, theory, practice and competition. Students will see tactics, learn patterns, and recognize the power of the pieces. We will cover numerous examples and amazing com- binations stemming from such themes as the pin, fork, double attack, discovered check, and the dreaded double check. Afternoon Session Option #3: Geometry Enrichment, Lead Teacher - Susie Sullivan Come enjoy the world of geometry! This camp will explore basic shapes, learn to measure angles, and problem solve for unknown angles given several geometric forms using the premises learned. Mathematician or not, you are sure to have a great time! Session 2 - 6/23/2014-7/3/2014 Morning Session Option #1: Sports with Coach L, Lead Teacher - Ryan Lancaster On your mark, get set, go! Join Coach Lancaster this session for two weeks of your favorite sports and games. This session will include a wide variety of developmental games, team sports, individual sports, and awesome group activities. Some of the exciting activities included are Gym Pong, Basketball, Soccer, 16” Softball, Team Handball, Fitness Ball, Giant Volleyball, floor hockey, and much more! This camp will focus on teamwork, good sportsmanship and having fun. Session 3 - 7/7/2014-7/18/2014 Morning Session Option # 1: Baseball/Softball, Lead Teacher - Sandy Melnick Students will have a chance to become more proficient in their baseball and softball skills and become more knowledgeable in the sport. They will learn not only how to do a certain skill physically, but also why they do that skill and why it’s important. These skills include hitting, fielding, throwing and running. Students will develop these abilities by repetition of activities and playing different types of games to enhance their skill level. **Students need to provide their own gloves, helmet, and bat*** Morning Session Option # 2: Lego-Robotics and Junior Achievement Our City Sumo-Robotics (Week 1 - 7/7/14-7/11/14) Experience the thrill of Lego Robotics! Students will be challenged to build and program their own robots, relying on the skills they have developed leveraging strategies to create solutions using LEGO Mindstorms NXT. Students will master certain program blocks of the LEGO Mindstorms NXT-G programming interface -- a kid-friendly, icon-based drag-and-drop programming environment to be used to create unique robotic programs. Junior Achievement Our City (Week 2 7/14/14-7/18/14) JA Our City introduces students to the characteristics of cities and how cities are shaped by zoning. Students also learn about the importance of money to a city; how financial institutions help businesses and city residents; and how the media is an integral part of a city’s life. Students learn the role of an entrepreneur by exploring what it takes to open a restaurant. Afternoon Session Option #1: Got GPS?, Lead Teacher - Donna Bancroft Navigating your way on our planet is a much needed life skill! Let’s add some fun to navigation! Learn about global positioning, and use handheld GPS devices to find hidden caches at summer camp! You may get to create and hide a cache for other campers! Afternoon Session Option #2: Kitchen Science, Lead Teacher - Chef Matt In Chef Matt’s “Kitchen Science” camp, we learn hands on, how science and our food cycle are intertwined. We will build solar ovens, make ice cream, develop our awareness of all five senses, and even explore basic cheese making. Students will gain a better understanding of our food from the garden to our plates. So come learn something new, have some fun, and eat! GRADES3-6(continued)
