What are we trying to solve for?
• Parallel vertical efforts within EWEC to engage civil society
• No common language across organizations or countries – and thus no
systematic way of sharing evidence, good practices, funding, or tools
• Common CSO request “fund me”, but no common framing of the explicit
purpose and deliverables of CS value added for EWEC
• Can sometimes become a “check-the-box” exercise
One Common Purpose: to advance EWEC outcomes and results
5. 5
• What are the vital few elements of civil society value added – to
the EWEC global strategy – that this group can agree on?
• Can this small group agree on a common framing for civil society
engagement to propose to all EWEC stakeholders (the “big
tent”)?
What are we trying to solve for?
We are NOT trying to resolve CSO funding issues,
or make “decisions” to impose on others

Gaps identified by CS leaders across Key Constituencies
for EWEC (January 14th Workshop)
• Governance Gaps: Identify whether the right pre-requisites exist for
effectives CS action, and barriers that prevents effective RMNCAH
coordination and mobilization at the country level.
• Financing Gaps: Financing needed to support CS efforts in health, with a
focus on CS unique roles in advocacy and accountability.
• Knowledge of Best Practices Gaps: Best practices for processes and
models of engagement and associated metrics at the country level to
demonstrate the value added of CS contributions (e.g. SUN country
engagement processes; Global Fund CCMs; CORE polio secretariats, etc.).
