- Slide 2: Glossary of Terms (used in this presentation): 1. Age-out= When a youth leaves Foster Care because they have reached a certain age without obtaining permanence through returning home, adoption, or kinship care. 2. Biological Parents= The person who gave birth, or fathered the child. 3. Caseworker= Works with youth and their families to provide services and support, with the goal of permanent placement for the youth. 4. Delinquent Offense= Anti-social or criminal behavior 5. Foster Home= A home where a youth may live while in the custody of the State’s Child Welfare System. 6. Group Homes= A home that cares for many foster youth, often using social workers for supervision instead of foster parents.
- Slide 3: Glossary of Terms CONTD. 1. Institutionalized Settings= The placement of children in hospitals, institutions, or orphanages. 2. Juvenile Court= A district court or another court that only addresses matters affecting children younger than age 18. 3. Kinship homes= Continuous care provided for a child requiring out of home placement by a relative, stepparent or other responsible adult who has a tie with the child/ child's family. 4. Maltreatment= Treatment in such a way as labeled cruel, inhumane, rough, and bad 5. Public Assistance= Aid given to those in need. Examples would be food stamps, cash assistance, and Medicaid/Medicare.
