Good afternoon everyone. My name is Angelique Torres. This is my second year with Endicott College as the Employer Outreach Specialist with the Career Center.
What is my role? I partner with various groups on campus to reach out to employers and find opportunities for students and engage those employers with our campus in creative ways so that students can have access to those opportunities. I wanted to provide information on four areas today.
First, I completed an analysis of Employer Recruiting Activity at the College for the year 2011/2012 that I want to share with the Endicott community.
Second, I will provide preliminary results of Employer Activity for fall 2012.
Third, I will provide a preview of some of the companies that are already lined up to visit the campus this upcoming spring.
Lastly, I will highlight how we can partner together moving forward.
What is Employer Activity?
These are currently some of the ways in which employers work with Endicott to provide opportunities for our students.
Now that I have provided examples of how employers work with us, I wanted to share some of the data with you. There are a few numbers worth highlighting.
Over 2,000 positions were posted on our online job board College Central, which means that employers are using it to post opportunities.
98 employers came on-campus to participate in recruiting efforts
40 of those employers participated in the Internship and Career Fair for the very first time, including the following: (next slide)
These new employers came from a variety of industries, from insurance, biotechnology, advertising, software, and investment.
8 out of those 98 employers held on-campus interviews for actual opportunities. However, it is worth pointing out that most employers choose to interview students on their company site versus on-campus.
Overall, 49 students applied and seven students were hired for either internship or full-time roles. Examples I would like to note are the Boston Celtics and Omni Parker House Hotel.
Both employers saw over 10 students apply for those opportunities and each ended up hiring one of our students for a full-time role.
With just about a couple of weeks left this semester, I wanted to share some preliminary employer activity results.
Worth pointing out is that besides coming on-campus to recruit for actual opportunities, employers are also engaging with the College by volunteering their time and expertise to provide insight on transitioning from college to career by hosting information sessions and as guests presenters during the Professional Development Series and in classrooms.
These employers include Oracle, Pearson Education, KPMG, Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare, and Target which hosted a Leadership Development presentation.
Target also hosted on-campus interviews in which one student each will be moving on to the second round for both a full-time and internship opportunity.
The Career Center is already thinking ahead into the spring.
I wanted to highlight some companies that have confirmed to engage with us next semester.
You will probably notice the variety of ways in which companies are working with us. There is also a healthy mix of companies that are coming back, like the Boston Celtics, Target, and Omni Parker House Hotel as well as new companies such as Oracle.
In closing, I wanted to provide you with ways in which you can contact me and stay updated on employer activity. The Internship Office and Career Center are currently active on three social media sites.
It has been a pleasure partnering with departments such as Business and Professor Chambers, Communication and Sara Allen, Psychology and Alefiya Albers, and Criminal Justice and Dave Parry along with student clubs like DECA, the Investment Club, and Law and Justice Society this fall for many of these events.
If you have any ideas on how employers can get involved, I would like to hear from you. I look forward to working with all of you to continue engaging employers with the college and encouraging students to attend these sessions.
Does anyone have any questions?
Thank you.
