Distribute Your Media Product and Why?

2. IPC Media
• NME is distributed by IPC Media
• This company produces over 60 media
brands
• They focus upon three main audience
groups: men, mass market women and up-
market women
• Magazines which are produced by IPC
include Country Life, Look, Now and Marie
Claire
• IPC Ltd. was formed in 1963, and IPC
Magazines was created five years later
• My magazine would suit this
institution as my target audience is
within their focusses, and their wide
range of publications means that the
subject of Indie Music would be
suitable.

3. Bauer Media Group
• Q Magazine is produced by Bauer Media Group
• This is a multinational company which operates in
15 countries
• It was established in 1873, before which it was
owned privately by the Bauer family
• Magazines produced by Bauer include Bella, Take A
Break, and TVChoice
• Worldwide circulation of Bauer’s magazines amount
to about 38 million per week
• My Magazine would not necessarily suit
this production company, as they also
produce Kerrang which is a specialist rock
magazine. The majority of the media
products produced by Bauer have limited
target audiences, whereas my magazine
has a fairly wide target audience

4. Where Would My
Magazine Be Sold?
• About 9 years ago, Britain has a thriving music
magazine industry. NME’s circulation was 72,442 in
2003.
• However, as a result of economic struggles such as
the credit crunch, less people wanted to spend
money on these magazines
• NME’s circulation fell to 27,650, and Q’s monthly
sale dropped by 3.6%
• Also, a lot of free magazines have come into
circulation on the internet, which obviously adds to
competition and decreases sales
• The majority of music magazine sales take place in
news agents, and secondly online
• For this reason, my magazine would benefit from
being circulated in news agents, corner shops and
supermarkets, as well as having paid copies on the
internet for those who prefer to read online
