2. Content
• How to take advantage of the new capability to clone
experiments to the latest template version
• Template maintenance and configuration
• Demonstration and walk through of the AELN 6.8 clone
functionality
3. Parent Template is treated as a
Standard Operating Procedure
and kept fully intact
• Value: Enable users to take advantage of
new features when cloning
– Pre-6.8: Cloned documents are exact copies
of the source experiments
– 6.8: Cloned documents are based on the
newest version of the Document Template
• Each section in the new document pulls data
from the corresponding section (matched by
title and type) in the Source Experiment
• How to configure Clone-to-Latest:
– It is necessary to upgrade the Parent
Template to Version 6.8 Sections
– Alternatively, older templates can be mapped
to new 6.8 templates

4. • Pre-6.8 clone behavior is configured by default
• If Clone to the Latest Version of the Template is desired:
– The Notebook application config file has a setting that will
enable the new cloning behavior and disable pre-6.8 cloning
<appSettings>
<add key="EnableCloneToLatest" value=“true" />
</appSettings>
• Can be distributed via a new Notebook profile
Clone Behavior Controlled via Application Config
5. • To access the 6.8 fixes and features in a cloned
experiment it is necessary to update the Experiment
Template:
– Check out the experiment template
– Update all document sections with 6.8 sections
– Configure the new sections: scripts, mapping, toolbars,
conditional formatting, etc.
– Update the set of insertable sections to the 6.8 versions
– Delete sections if appropriate
Template Upgrade Maintenance
6. Alternatively, Map older Template Versions
From the open 6.8 template,
select ‘Map Templates for
Cloning…’
List of available templates is
displayed
Templates that are already
mapped to another
template are highlighted
and unavailable for mapping
to the open template
8. • The new document contains
– Sections that are in both the Source Experiment and the Parent Template matched by
Name and section type
– Unmatched sections that are in either the Source Experiment or the Parent Template
– Inserted sections from the Source Experiment
– Set of insertable sections from the Parent Template
• If the source experiment has inserted sections or a section that’s not in the
parent template then Notebook will clone the section using the pre-6.8 cloning
behavior
– Creates a copy of the section as the original version
• Parallel Chemistry
– Library data (Discrete Reactants, Enumerated Products, Plate Layout, and Reaction List
sections) is not cloned
– Generic Reaction Transform Options are not included
Final Points of Interest
