“Video marketing is one of the best free
methods of marketing available today. All it
takes is the time to learn how to create a video
and then upload it to video sharing sites.
Many people don’t feel comfortable appearing
in a video themselves. If this sounds like you,
don’t worry you will discover easy ways to get
around this. But remember if you are trying to
brand yourself, then you should get through
your fear and appear in the video. Once you
have accomplished this a couple of times you
will laugh at yourself for being so nervous!”

“Videos can be a superb learning tool, so
you want to ensure that you are educating
and/ or entertaining the viewer at the
same time. As with any type of content,
you must add value to your video. Your
goal is to have people watch the entire
video and then click on your link to visit
your website. Getting them to take
ACTION is your goal!”

Video Creation BasicsVideo Creation Basics
We will cover the basic way to create a video first and this
can be done by using software already installed on your
computer. The following instructions are for those using
Windows based software.
•Open up PowerPoint, if you don’t have Microsoft Office then
go to http://openoffice.org and download the free version
there.
2. Choose a template and create a title page for your
presentation. Tell your viewers what they are going to learn
during the video. You want to make this your call to action.
3. Next you simply copy and paste each paragraph onto an
individual slide. Center the paragraph on the slide and
increase the font size if necessary.
5
Lesson One: Creating Your VideosLesson One: Creating Your Videos
4. On the last slide tell the audience how to get more
information and include your URL. You can repeat your
call to action here as well.
5. Next you want to save your presentation as a jpg file.
Simply hit Save As and go to save as type and scroll
down to jpg.
6. Open up Windows Movie Maker and import your slides
into the window.
7. Drag and drop each slide into the story board.
8. If you wish to add effects and transitions then simply click
on the icon on the left hand window. Again it is a matter
of dragging and dropping your selection into the story
board.
6
Lesson One: Creating Your VideosLesson One: Creating Your Videos
9. You can add music or an audio file by importing into
Windows Movie Maker. The audio file can just be you
reading the text of your article. This can be recorded by
using a free program call Audacity.
10.Once you have your audio added, you want to play the
movie and make sure that your voice matches each slide.
Simply drag the slide to lengthen or shorten it.
11.Once you are happy with your slide show, it is time to turn
it into a movie.
12.Follow the instructions under Finish the Movie to save it to
your computer.
13.Your movie is now ready to be uploaded to video sharing
sites.

Music in VideosMusic in Videos
When using music in your videos you must be aware of
copyright laws and the guidelines of the video sites
themselves. Currently YouTube allows you to use only 7
seconds of any published music. If you use more you run
the risk of having your video taken down by YouTube.
To get around this you can find royalty free music
available at royalty free music.com. You then have the
rights to use this music without any issues.

Make Your Video OnlineMake Your Video Online
There are some sites which allow you to directly make your
video online. These sites often have restrictions and time
limitations but are useful for making a quick promo video for
your site, service or product.
Here is one that you can use today:

Recording SoftwareRecording Software
Before using any type of screen capture software you want to
do the following four steps.
•Prepare your material for your presentation. Creating an
outline is a good option as this gives you a starting point. If you
prepare a script and stick to it, your recording may turn out a
little flat.
•Having patience is extremely important when recording any
material. This is very true when you are just starting out. When
recording your voice speak slowly, clearly and just be yourself.
10
Lesson Two: Styles of Video Recording SoftwareLesson Two: Styles of Video Recording Software
3. Think about how you want to save your presentation. The
file types you choose will determine who can and cannot
view your material. Some of the most popular file types
today are:
Windows Media Video(.wmv) MP4 (ipod/psp)
3GP (cell phones) FLV (adobe flash)
AVI (windows) SWF (shockwaveflash)
MKV (h.264) MOV (mac)
MPEG
4. Keep any unnecessary movements down to a minimum as
this will help decrease your file size. Smaller files are easier
to manage, so keep this in mind.
11
Lesson Two: Styles of Video Recording SoftwareLesson Two: Styles of Video Recording Software
CamtasiaCamtasia
• Camtasia is a screen capture software. This software
allows you to define which part of your screen you wish
to record. You set your perimeters first and then start
recording.
• After opening Camtasia, you will click on Make a
Recording. This opens a new window where you can
set your options.
• If you choose to narrate while recording, an audio setup
wizard will open which will walk you through setting up
your microphone.
12
Lesson Two: Styles of Video Recording SoftwareLesson Two: Styles of Video Recording Software
• A Camtasia Recorder Selection Area will appear on
your screen. To keep your desired area then check the
Lock to application box, or you can select from any one
of the preset sizes.
• Once you have all this set up, you are ready to record
your presentation. Once done, press stop and a preview
window will open up. Once you are happy with the way
everything looks, click on Save.

Lesson Three: Using CamcordersLesson Three: Using Camcorders
to Make Your Videosto Make Your Videos
“Camcorders are great for making videos
where you want a high quality product. The
advantage to using a camcorder is of course
that you can record footage anywhere.
There are many types of camcorders
available and you will need to determine
which features and options you wish before
making a purchase. Consider type of lenses
and if you need to zoom in on a subject.”

Cameras and Cell PhonesCameras and Cell Phones
Cameras and cell phones are both other options to shoot
your own videos. Many great videos on YouTube have
been shot by using a cell phone! YouTube accepts 3G
formats which allows you to upload from your cell phone
or PDA device directly.
A popular camera choice for shooting video is the Flip
camera and this is a very affordable option. Using a Flip
camera is simple and is the perfect choice for the
beginner.

Local Video:Local Video:
If you are working with a local business or out in your local
community you can shoot video to create informational products.
Adding a voice over description adds more personality and depth
and allows your audience to connect with you.
How to guides:How to guides:
These are extremely popular on YouTube. It is getting to the
point that anyone who isn’t sure of how to do something goes to
YouTube for the answer. They just enter their subject and up
comes a list of helpful videos.

Commercials:Commercials:
Making commercial videos is another huge business
opportunity. You can make money by either creating
commercial videos for others, or by making your own videos for
your business.
Commercial videos can be made for a variety of offline
businesses including landscapers, local stores, restaurants,
vacation properties and more.
Article Videos:Article Videos:
If you are into niche marketing, making article videos with voice
over is an effective way of marketing your product. It also is a
good way or repurposing your content. These types of videos
are simple to make using PowerPoint slides as we described in
our ‘How to Create a Video Section’.

Real Estate:Real Estate:
The Real Estate market is huge and perfect for anyone who is
looking to create an offline business. Why not offer a service to
create video for Realtors? You can shoot their listed properties and
highlight the selling features of the home.
Teaching Guides:Teaching Guides:
These are similar to how to videos but have a more educational
slant to them. Examples would be teaching some to play guitar with
a series of step by step videos.
Review videos:Review videos:
These types of videos are extremely popular and great for affiliate
marketers. You can simply record yourself reviewing a product and
giving your testimonial about it. These types of videos are effective
if the viewer sees you handling and using the item being reviewed.

Lesson Five: YouTube BestLesson Five: YouTube Best
PracticesPractices
TaggingTagging
With videos tagging is just a way of adding keywords related
to your video. You want to be sure not to over tag your video
and always use tags that describe your video. This way you
are more likely to get an increased number of views.
Collect Ratings and CommentsCollect Ratings and Comments
This can easily be done by asking people to rate your video
and leave a comment underneath. The more ratings you
have the more exposure YouTube will give you.
19
Lesson Five: YouTube Best PracticesLesson Five: YouTube Best Practices
Video DescriptionVideo Description
You want to leave a good description about your video. Be
sure to include your keyword and be certain that your
description is unique. If you copy from another video, you
will get punished and receive lower rankings. Always
begin your description with your URL.
Be SocialBe Social
In order to get more views you need to be seen as social
on YouTube. You can do this by subscribing to other
people’s channels and leaving comments on their videos.
Subscribe to similar channels as this will help brand you in
the community.
20
Lesson Five: YouTube Best PracticesLesson Five: YouTube Best Practices
ConsistencyConsistency
To really get the most of out of marketing with YouTube, you
want to post new videos on a regular basis. Aim for at least a
couple of videos each week. As your channel gets larger the
more views all your videos will receive.
Enable InteractionEnable Interaction
This feature gives people the opportunity to comment, share
and like your video.
Respond with VideoRespond with Video
Leave a video as a comment. This gives you more exposure
and makes your comment stand out. Since people love video
they are likely to play it to hear your comments.
21
Lesson Five: YouTube Best PracticesLesson Five: YouTube Best Practices
Related videosRelated videos
This is a feature which you do not have any control over. The
selections are made automatically and are based on certain criteria.
If you feel that the selections are inappropriate you can use the
flagging feature below the video.
Clickable linksClickable links
You can set this up so that your link goes to a website of your
choice. Go to promote video, choose video and then follow the
simple steps to set it up. Another way that you can embed a
clickable link on your video is by using a service such as Linkedtube.
AnnotationsAnnotations
Is a link which only goes to another YouTube video, does not go to
external sites.
22
Lesson Six: Video Sharing SitesLesson Six: Video Sharing Sites
“Sharing your video is also known as video
syndication. Of all these types of sites
YouTube is the largest and receives the most
amount of traffic. But there are other video
sharing sites that are worth uploading your
video to.”
23
Lesson Six: Video Sharing SitesLesson Six: Video Sharing Sites
These are some popular sites:
• Metacafe
• Blip
• Viddler
• Revver
• Vimo
• Daily Motion
You can find a large list by doing a search on the internet for video
sharing sites. The list can be very long and uploading each video to
each site could be very time consuming.
One of the most popular ways to do this is by using TubeMogul. You
sign up and then create accounts at all of the video sharing sites.
This one step could take you a couple of hours, but once done,
sharing your video will be a snap.
24
Lesson Six: Video Sharing SitesLesson Six: Video Sharing Sites
Once you are ready to start uploading videos, log into your
TubeMogul account and hit the upload button, find your video
and begin the uploading process.
Your next step is to fill in all the information pertaining to your
video.
When you fill out the description field, always use your URL
correctly in this way:
http://yourwebsite.com
The tags are simply video keywords so include ones that are
relevant to your video.
Your last step is to select an appropriate category. Once
ready you simply hit the launch button and TubeMogul will
start distributing your video.
25
Lesson Seven: Video SEOLesson Seven: Video SEO
YouTube uses an algorithm which is composed of the following:
• title
• description
• tags
• number of views
• rating
Even though YouTube allows you to upload widescreen videos, the
recommendation is not to use this format. Keep to the 4.3 format as
this is what thumbnails are optimized to.
The description field allows you to have 27 characters before the
dots appear, so be sure to add your URL in here first.
26
Lesson Seven: Video SEOLesson Seven: Video SEO
Getting Links to Your VideoGetting Links to Your Video
Once you have your video uploaded you want to get links to
it. One way to do this is by writing up a quick Press Release
and submitting it.
Submit your video to social book marking sites that allow
you to do this.
Create a free report on the same subject as your video and
give it away to people. Have the video link inside the report
and this should generate some links and additional traffic.
By allowing comments on your videos you are generating
links at the same time. Plus if your comments develop into a
good discussion this can get picked up by other sources.
27
Lesson Eight: Tracking YourLesson Eight: Tracking Your
Video StatsVideo Stats
YouTube allows you to track your video stats by clicking on the
Insights tab in your account. You can see all your stats in
summary form and then separately by clicking on the tabs on the
left hand side.
Here you can see the breakdown into the following categories:
• Views
• Discovery
• Demographics
• Community
• Subscribers
28
Lesson Eight: Tracking Your Video StatsLesson Eight: Tracking Your Video Stats
Google Video SitemapsGoogle Video Sitemaps
Having a video sitemap is an excellent way of letting the search
engine spiders know about your videos.
Visit this page for a quick demonstration on how to add this to your
site:
http://www.google.com/webmasters/videositemaps/
To implement this you will need:
• Title
• Description
• Play Page URL
• Thumbnail image URL
• Raw video file location
29
Lesson Nine: How to Rank inLesson Nine: How to Rank in
YouTubeYouTube
“If you treat YouTube like you do Facebook you
will start to see that more people are viewing
your videos and leaving comments. You want to
be seen as being social and active in the
community.
This involves making videos regularly and
participating with your followers. Too many
people just upload a video and then leave. Stick
around and view similar videos and then leave
appropriate remarks.”

34
ConclusionConclusion
“The one thing to remember when using videos is
that it is a trend which is forever changing. So keep
tabs on YouTube and check out what is new on a
regular basis. This will help you be one step ahead
of your competition.
Too many people are worried about creating videos.
My advice to you is just to get out there and get it
done. As your experience increases so will the
quality of your videos.
Remember we all had to start somewhere. Video
marketing is a powerful tool and one that you
should be taking advantage of.
Good luck in your business and happy Video
Blogging & Pod Casting.”
