4. Introduction
Language is the human ability to acquire and use complex system of
communication and a language is any specific example of such a system.
The scientific study of language is called linguistic.
In Pakistan many languages are spoken but the national is Urdu it is
relatively new language and over time Muslim in the subcontinent have
spoken a wide variety of language.
5. History.
Since Islam arrive to subcontinent there have been many different
languages spoken by civilians. As any group came to rule, they brought
their own language. The languages which has great influence was
Persian. During Mughals period it was official language at court. It was
also adopted by many poets and scholars . the language was also used
for day-by-day communication and become so widespread that even
Hindus began to use it.

7. URDU.
This language developed by combining many other languages . This was
widely use in Mughals period and as far as sultanates of Delhi this
language eventually went through many stages of development to form
what we now call Urdu. It become widely spoken and understood in many
different regions of the subcontinent.
Urdu language received boost when Mughals emperor Bahadur Shah
Zafar took an interest to promote it.
Urdu played an important role for the road to independence. Muslim
league aimed not only to defend the rights of Muslim but was also protect
Urdu language.
Urdu is generally accepted as the state language today but the most
spoken of the 72 first language in Pakistan is panjab.
8. Urdu as the national language.
Urdu language survived and after independence become the national
language. The Quaid-e-Azam was keen to promote Urdu language.
It was to be link language for all the provinces to provide for cultural
and educational needs of the people and to forge unity of purpose
among the various sections of society.
The government has taken foster the growth of Urdu. A dictionary of
office terms in Urdu has been published and step have been taken to
move away English as the language of administration. Urdu is the
medium for radio and television programmes. Urdu plays and films
are very popular. Urdu novels, poetry, magazines and newspapers
are widely read.
9. SINDHI.
Compared with Urdu sindhi is an older language spoken in the province of
sindh.
Before the arrivals of the Muslims, sindhi was written in the ‘Marwari’ and
‘Arz Nagari’ ways of writing. Arabic has major impact on sindhi.
In 1948 the Sindhi literary board was set up and this has printed many
books and magazines in Sindhi. Amongst important Sindhi authors are Pir
Ali, Muhammad Rashid, Faqir Nabi Bux and G. Allana.
Several important books have been written on sindhi folk literature.
In 1958 Bazm-e-talib-ul-maula was set up to promote sindh literature.
A sarmast academy has been establish in the memory of sachal sarmast.
A sindhiology department has been establish at sindh university jamshoro
10. BALOCHI.
Balochi is the language spoken in Baluchistan the largest Pakistan province though other
language such as Persian and Brohi are also spoken In the province . There are two main
type of Balochi , sulemanki and mekrani.
Radio Pakistan Karachi began board cast in Balochi.
The Balochi literary association was set up and there are now weekly and monthly magazines
publish in the language.
The Quetta T.V station board cast in Balochi.
Modern Balochi literature had shown rapid progress. There are many poet most notable are
atta shad and ishaq shamim. Other writer such as gul kan nazir and azad jamal din are also
working to promote Balochi language
11. PUNJABI.
Punjabi is the language spoken in the most populous of Pakistan
province the Punjab. It is an easily understood langue which has
been given various different name throughout history e.g. it has been
refer to as masoodi, al-hindi and hindko.,
Punjabi has long history. Originally it has written in gurmokhi script
but during the latter years of the Mughals Arabic script was used.
The early Punjabi lit rater consist of folk tales. Among them Heer-
Ranjha, sassi-Punnu, soni-mahiwal are widely known. There has also
been a long tradition of mystic literature extending from the twelfth
century.
One the new literary endeavours was the versified translation of the
Holy Quran rendered by Muhammad ail faiq.
12. PASHTO.
Pashto is the language spoken by the people of the NWFP and in the northern
areas of Baluchistan. Like most language it has been heavily influence other
languages such as Arabic, Persian and Greek.
The first period dates from around the second thirteen century. The first Pashto
poet of this period was Amir khan pehiwan, though the most famous was
bayazid ansari. His most famous work, khair-ul-bian, was probably the first book
of Sufism in Pashto literature.
the second period begging with the Mughals invasion of India in the early
thirteenth century and lasted about one hundred years. It was during this period
that the quality of Pashto prose was at its peak.
The third period extend to the establish of British rule and also consider to be a
golden periods for Pashto literature. Pashto literature played a very important
part in creating opposition to the British rule and in the movement for the
independence.
