married a warrior called Wan Darus. While Wan Darus was away at war, Mahsuri
met a man called Deraman.
They were only friends but the chief villager’s wife who was envious of
Mahsuri’s beauty and fame. She saw an opportunity to get rid of her. She spread
a rumour that Mahsuri was being unfaithful to her husband. Mahsuri tried to
prove her innocence but failed as no one wanted to believe her.
She was tied to a tree and stabbed to death with a keris. White blood
flowed from her body to prove that she was innocent. She cursed the island for
seven generations of bad luck for causing her death.
