4. Virtual Reality Report - November 20164
Sector Overview
Scope of report
Virtual Reality is immersive multimedia that digitally simulates physical presence in real or imagined worlds, and allows the user
to interact with that world. VR immerses the user into a completely computer-created experience that artificially replaces
his/her physical surroundings.
Virtual Reality is an upcoming technology trend for both Consumer & Enterprise applications. The advancement in VR hardware
and VR-related enabling technologies & software solutions have enabled development of more immersive content, thus making
more interactive VR applications for a number of sectors such as Real Estate & Architecture, Social Network, Entertainment, etc.
Includes companies which manufacture display devices (head mounted devices, smartphone-based HMD, cardboard etc.),
cameras (3D cameras, rigs) and motion controllers (moving platforms, wearables, etc.). Contains software which help
input/output devices such as motion controllers in gesture recognition, motion tracking, simulation, etc. as well as software to
help developers create VR content artificially through computer. Tools to process content (picture/video) after capture through
camera have been included. Comprises of players applying VR technology in various fields like Entertainment, Health, Real
Estate, Retail, Tourism, etc.
Excludes generic 3D and visualization tools. Generic software which can be used to make VR content are not included e.g. game
engines like Unity are covered in Gaming Enablers feed. Also excludes Gaming studios, which are covered under VR Gaming
feed. Not inclusive of consulting firms for VR. Does not include Augmented Reality specific device manufacturers and technology
solutions providers which are covered in Augmented Reality feed.
This report includes equity as well as debt funding received by the companies.
