With the social development and progress of times, there are too many films
are released in each year. Sometimes it is hard for the audience to select which is
good or bad film to watch. This year, there is a musical film which drawn everyone
attention by Walt Disney Pictures – Frozen. Nevertheless, after Frozen was released,
there are numerous comparisons between “Tangled” and “Frozen”. So let’s take a
look at some of these comparisons of two animated musical fantasy-comedy films
and see if they have any merit.
To start off, both of the main protagonists are the princess with power. From
the film “Frozen”, Elsa, princess of Arendelle, possesses the cryokinetic power,
which she is able to produce ice, frost and snow at will by her hands. In “Tangled”, a
golden flower capable of healing any decay or injury. As the flower has healed the
queen before she gives birth to Princess Rapunzel. Therefore Rapunzel’s hair
possesses the healing properties of the flower, but that cutting the hair will causes it
to lose its magic.
Initially, Anna and Rapunzel have stayed in the palace and tower in their
entire youth life but then they both actually walk out from their comfort zone for
love one and dreams. After Elsa have frost the kingdom in a endless winter, Anna
teams up with rugged moutain man, Kristoff and his reindeer, Sven and with the
snowman, Olaf to seek out Elsa and persuade her to return back to the kingdom, end
the winter and mend their relationship. In the other hand, Rapunzel is curious of the
outside world and dreams to leaving the tower to see the floating lights on her
birthday but Mother Gothel refuses to let Rapunzel go out of the tower. When a
charming thief, Flynn Ryder seeks for refuge in Rapunzel’s tower, she convinces him
to escort her to see the floating lights in exchange for the crown. He accepts the deal
and they start a hair-raising journey of discoveries and chased by the guards, the
bandits and Mother Gothel after escapes from the tower.
Even though Elsa and Rapunzel have the supernatural powers, they have
very limited knowledge about their power when they are young. In Frozen, once
Elsa accidentally loses control and injures Anna in her childhood, she is afraid of
hurting her sister again; therefore she spends most of her youth time alone in her
room until she learns to control her powers. In the other side, after the Mother
Gothel knows that the flower’s magical powers are growing within the golden hair
of Rapunzel; to stay young she kidnaps Rapunzel when she is little and locks her in a
hidden tower. Rapunzel has been in the tower her entire youth life and nearing her
eighteenth birthday, she does ask Mother Gothel for permission to leave the tower
but Gothel refuses. In the meantime, both of them have lost their freedom during
their youth times even they have the ability of superpower.
Lastly, the moral lesson of both films is don't judge a book by its cover. In
Frozen, Hans, the charming and handsome prince, is fooling first Anna and then Elsa
through his charm at first then soon he turns out to become a manipulative, power
hungry man who will kill whoever it takes in order to secure a seat on the King’s
throne. Besides, people think Elsa is evil as she isolater herself from eveyone on the
mountain after knowing she has the ability of superpower and incident of curse the
kingdom into infinite winter. In fact, she fears her power will hurt anyone especially
her sister. Meanwhile, in "Tangled", Flynn comes off as cocky, arrogant bandits who
overly concerned about money and wealth at firsr, but actually he is helpful, laid-back,
and good hearted. Furthermore, Mother Gothel repeatedly telling Rapunzel
people are evil and the world is dangerous place and she is protecting her from the
evil world but indeed she locks Rapunzel in her hidden tower is for her greedy to
retain her youth.
In conclusion, I believe that everyone has the right to pursue their dreams
and happiness. Never give up on achieving your dreams no matter how bad or hard
the situation. Both of the films do show some positive value to the audience that we
should not judge a book by its cover; people may change to the good or bad side of
them due to different experiences and environments. We should not label others in
the first place when we barely know them. People make mistakes, but doesn't mean
they have to pay for the rest of their life. Sometimes good people make bad decision,
but it doesn't mean they are bad. Everyone does deserve a second chance and
forgiveness.
