The 3D Imaging Lab at the University of Kentucky develops real-time 3D acquisition systems that can capture 3D data at 120 frames per second for applications such as biometrics, motion tracking, gesture recognition, 3D modeling, and entertainment; their hybrid system is able to fuse 3D data from multiple views with 26 times reduction in noise compared to traditional stereo methods; one project involves 3D fingerprint scanning that flattens and fuses 3D fingerprints into 2D representations for improved matching performance.
