1) Ecological protection and restoration work has been ongoing in the Lijiang River in Guilin, Guangxi province since 2005, with over 10 billion RMB invested. This includes establishing water monitoring systems, building ecological reservoirs, wastewater treatment, and lake restoration projects.
2) Monitoring of fish habitats in the Lijiang River shows declines in species and genus diversity between 1974-1976 and 2005-2008.
3) Indoor and field tests of aquatic organisms and fish are being used to study the relationship between environmental factors and habitat protection. Preliminary results suggest noise, light, vibration and temperature significantly impact fish behaviors beyond hydrological and biochemical conditions.

2005 年 8 月,水利部确定桂林市为全国第一个水生态系统保护和修
复试点,工程建设计划投资 100.11 亿元 , 至 2010 年,项目经费 81.27
亿元,主要用于生态水库、防污治污、环城水系生态修复等项目建设 .
