Smokers should consider quitting smoking because it is bad for their health, smells terrible and
cost too much. Also, people should stop smoking as it leads to increased infections and
premature aging. Lastly, smokers should quit smoking cigarettes because it causes reduction of
senses of smell and taste.
Introduction
On average, tobacco smokers spend a lot of money weekly on consumption of cigarettes.
This shows that smoking generally affects people physically, financially and pollute the
surrounding environment (Hayes et al., 3). Cigarette smoking is among the leading causes of
avoidable sicknesses, disability cases and deaths in America and the world at large. For instance,
around 40 million grownups in United States consume cigarettes. Furthermore, according to
(CDC) Center for Disease Control, a good number of middle and high school scholars use at
least one tobacco product (Center for Disease Control, 1). A person with a habit of smoking
cigarettes dies ten years earlier compared to nonsmoker. Tobacco consumption results to around
seven million deaths yearly all over the world. Thus, if this pattern of smoking persists
throughout the world, more than 8 million people will die every year as a result of illnesses
linked to tobacco consumption by 2030 (Center for Disease Control, 1). Therefore, people
should quit smoking as it is bad for their health, smells terrible and cost too much.
According to NIDA (National Institute of on Drug Abuse), majority of cigarette smokers
mostly develop this type of habit due to several reasons. These consist of peer pressure,
misinformation, wrong advertisements, self-medication, influence from social media, stress and
parental influence (Smith et al., 5). Nicotine is the addictive drug which produces the effect

people look for every time they light up a tobacco product. Nicotine contains hydrogen cyanide,
formaidelhde, lead, arsenic, ammonia and radioactive elements such as carbon monoxide and
uranium which are harmful ingredients to human body (American Cancer Society, 2). Smoking
cigarettes has a horrible impact on every aspect of human life. Each cigarette consumed usually
reduces a person’s life. Thus, smokers should stop smoking because it causes increased
infections and premature aging. Furthermore, smokers should quit smoking as it leads to
decreased senses of smell and taste.
Cigarette Smoking Leads to Bad Health, terrible Smell and is Much Costly
People Should Quit Smoking It is bad for Their Health
Individuals should quit smoking because it is bad for their health, brings about terrible
smell and cost too much to smokers. Cigarette consumption accounts for around one-fifth of all
loss of lives from heart disease. Lung cancer, stroke and emphysema in American and all over
the world. For instance, cigarette smokers have a two-to fourfold rise in coronary artery disease.
Furthermore, cigarette consumer has around 70 percent higher death rate from coronary artery
disease compared to nonsmoker (American Cancer Society, 2). In addition, the rate of an
individual getting heart attack rises with amount of cigarettes a person smokes. There is no safe
number of cigarettes to smoke. Smokers increase their risk of having a heart attack the more they
consume cigarettes. A person smoking a pack of cigarettes in a single day have double the risk of
heart attack compared to nonsmoker. Therefore, quitting smoking will help in reducing the risk
of developing and dying from lung cancer, heart disease, emphysema and stroke (American
Cancer Society, 2).
4. QUITTING SMOKING 4

Cigarette smoking results to about 480,000 preventable deaths every year. Smoking
cigarette is a real risk factor for several chronic illnesses. According to American Heart
Association, smoking cigarette is the greatest important avoidable cause of early deaths in the
United States (Screening & Board, 4). Thus, quitting smoking can help people in adding years to
their life. For example, people who quit smoking before age forty decrease their chances of
dying early from smoking-linked illnesses by around 90 percent. Moreover, smokers who quit by
age 45-54 cut their likelihood of dying prematurely by about two-thirds (American Cancer
Society, 2). This shows that smokers can control their health by quitting and remaining smoke
free. Additionally, over time, smokers will be able to decrease their danger of death from lung
cancer and other diseases such as chronic bronchitis and other types of cancer (American Cancer
Society, 2). Thus, people should quickly quit smoking to prevent occurrence of such diseases.
The smell of cigarette smoking is generally terrible. Smokers are ordinarily self-
conscious about the smell of smoke on their clothes and hair (Screening & Board, 4).
Furthermore, the smell of their breath is one of precise sensitivity to many smokers. For instance,
several media campaigns have associated kissing a smoker to licking an ashtray. In addition,
tobacco smoking stains the skin of a person’s nails, teeth and hands. This is mainly a telltale sign
of many chronic smokers. However, this kind of discoloration usually fades after stopping
smoking. Therefore, smokers should consider quitting smoking for them to keep up good
appearances (Villanti et al., 6).
People Should Quit Cigarette Smoking Its Economic Cost is Too Much
5. QUITTING SMOKING 5
The cost of smoking cigarettes is high to a country and smokers. For many smokers,
consuming cigarettes is usually costly. The price of a pack of cigarettes differs much by locality.
However, the usual cost per pack is around $5 and in a number of states it can range as high as
$10. Therefore, an individual at a place where a pack of cigarettes costs $7 spends around
$3,000 every year (Screening & Board, 4). This has already put aside the fact that an average
smoker has three more sick days yearly. Thus, the person is always 8 percent less productive and
has $1,600 more in health care costs each year. Furthermore, smoking-linked diseases in
America cost more than $300 billion yearly. This includes about $170 billion for direct medical
care for grownups. Moreover, over $156 billion comprises lost productivity per year. This entails
$6 billion in lost productivity as a result of secondhand exposure to smoking (Villanti et al., 6).
However, these figures do not account for the toll smoking takes in the long-run. Therefore,
quitting smoking will help in reducing yearly economic costs of smoking in United States and all
over the world (Villanti et al., 6).
Cigarette Smoking Result to Increased Infections and Premature Aging
People Should Quit Smoking It Causes Increased Infections
Individuals should consider quitting smoking as it leads to increased infections. People
may know and understand the long-term health dangers related to smoking cigarettes. However,
many people are unaware that smoking cigarettes makes people extra susceptible to a number of
seasonal flu and colds (Villanti et al., 6). People never get to understand how much more
regularly cigarette smokers get bacterial, viral and other infections. Human beings have tiny
hairs known as cilia which line the respiratory tract, comprising the bronchial tubes and trachea.
The cilia is usually for protecting human beings from infection. To carry out this task, cilia

regularly wave in a way which grabs bacteria and viruses getting into the trachea. They later
push the bacteria and viruses up and out through coughing. They are then swallowed and
destroyed in the stomach (Villanti et al., 6). However, cigarette consumption paralyzes the cilia.
This destroys the core protective mechanism of cilia. This further makes many cigarette smokers
vulnerable to many infections. Fortunately, stopping smoking helps cilia to continue with their
crucial protective role. Therefore, people should quit cigarette smoking with immediate effect for
them to enjoy a life free of infections (Villanti et al., 6).
People Should Stop Smoking It Causes Premature Aging
The key and noteworthy cause of early aging of human face is cigarette smoking.
Consistent smokers are more likely to have skin alterations such as leathery skin and deep
wrinkling (Villanti et al., 6). This is because cigarette smoking causes biochemical alterations in
human body which increase aging process. For instance, cigarette consumption deprives living
skin tissue of oxygen through constriction of blood vessels. Through this, blood does not easily
reach to an individual’s organs such as skin. Furthermore, the muscle actions needed in inhaling
results to classic smoker’s wrinkles around the mouth. All these make cigarette smokers to
experience premature aging. Therefore, to avoid early aging, smokers should stop consuming
cigarettes (Villanti et al., 6).
People Should Stop Smoking It Causes Reduction of Senses of Smell and Taste
Many cigarette consumers always experience a dampening of their senses of smell and
taste. In most cases, smokers are unable to appreciate the taste of many foods as strongly as they
used to before starting smoking. This loss of smell attributed to smoking leads to diminished
ability to taste. This is due to the fact that breathing in hot fumes of cigarette smoke is toxic to

human senses (Villanti et al., 6). Many cigarette consumers realize that food no longer taste as
they used to, however, this process is rather gradual, making it challenging to notice.
Nevertheless, quitting smoking usually brings an instant return of senses (Hayes et al., 3).
Additionally, the pleasure associated with eating becomes dramatically improved upon quitting
smoking. This may happen within a number of days after quitting. Thus, it is important for
smokers to stop consumption of cigarettes for them to enjoy the pleasure linked with eating
(Villanti et al., 6).
Counter Perspective Argument
Smokers may choose to use electronic cigarettes because they are much safer and
healthier. They offer alike sensation to breathing in tobacco smoke without the presence of
smoke. However, electronic cigarettes are also harmful to human beings. This is because
electronic cigarettes have nicotine which is addictive and triggers alterations in human brain.
Furthermore, vaping is sometimes more harmful compared to evading cigarette smoking
altogether (Villanti et al., 6).
Conclusion
In outline, smoking cigarettes has many effects on smoker’s health, secondhand smokers
and the country. Therefore, stopping smoking cigarettes is in no way, shape or form easy. It is
important for all cigarette smokers to consider quitting for them to stay healthy, live long, have
desirable looks, and avoid early deaths and premature aging. Thus, people should stop being
prisoners of cigarettes by deciding to quit smoking as early as possible.
