The way the Christian Jesus is portrayed in Scientology, from the simple basics to the
complex OT VIII portrayal, is very different from how Christians view Jesus. For instance,
Scientology contends that Jesus was an implant designed to manipulate human thought, not the
son of God. Furthermore, they assert that Jesus was a regular person and that the story of his
execution and resurrection was fabricated. This picture of Jesus is wholly at odds with my values
as a Christian, and it would harm my opinion of Scientology. It is clear that Scientology wants to
separate itself from Christianity and does so by demonizing the religion's main figure, Jesus
Christ.
I like finding out about religion, like Scientology, from the viewpoint of another faith, in
this case, Christianity. It gives an insightful perspective on how the two religions' divergent
practices and doctrines differ. The Christian view of Scientology makes an informative contrast,
even though I prefer an academic approach that merely gives facts and history without
interpretation or opinion. Understanding Scientology's viewpoint on Christianity is beneficial
since it draws attention to the disparities between Christian beliefs and practices and
Scientology's own.
Three aspects of Scientology's stood out to me as particularly compelling and unsettling
in my research on Scientology from a Christian perspective. These include the practice of
disconnection, their belief that people are immortal beings known as Thetans, and their use of E-
meters to identify and treat spiritual trauma. I am intrigued and troubled by the idea that E-
meters can be used to identify and treat spiritual damage. The practice of "disconnection," which

requires members to sever all ties with anyone, who criticizes Scientology, is questionable. It's
also confusing and challenging to comprehend that we are Thetans who have existed for millions
of years. Overall, reading about Scientology from a Christian perspective was educational and
enlightening.
