2. Visual Analogies
Picture,
diagram,
film that is
used to
explain
something
a comparison in
which an idea or a
thing is compared to
another thing that is
quite different from it
Ex: Ang pag-aasawa ay
hindi parang kanin na
kung mainit ay iluluwa
3. Visual Analogies
Picture, diagram or film that is used to:
-explain something, usually, that which is quite impossible to access
-give visual representation of an idea or a concept
4. • Data visualization is a general term that
describes any effort to help people
understand the significance of data by placing
it in a visual context. Patterns, trends and
correlations that might go undetected in text-
based data can be exposed and recognized
easier with data visualization software.

5. Text vs. Visuals
• Results from the 1998 National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS)
confirm that while national fertility rates are declining, at an average of
3.7 children per woman, they are still considerably higher than the rates
prevailing in neighboring countries. Women in Thailand, Vietnam,
Indonesia, Bangladesh, and India have fewer than 3.5 children during their
reproductive life. NDHS results reveal that there may be several reasons
why fertility rates in the Philippines have not fallen more rapidly.
• Although contraceptive use has tripled among married women since 1968,
from 15 to 47 percent, data indicate that there has been a leveling-off in
recent years. This could explain why the fertility rate has only declined
slightly from 4.1 to 3.7 in the last five years. Although limited in recent
years, the decline has been gradual since the 1960's and can be attributed,
in part, to an increase in contraceptive use.
7. Factors to consider
• Man is visual by nature (yet it is a necessity to
read, knowledge is power)
• It is not true that humans only have 6 seconds
ATTENTION SPAN, one whole second less than
that of a goldfish

10. • Abstract Analogies- These are analogies because
they are reminiscent of physical objects. But they are
simplified and abstract.
11. • Analogies- These are true analogies – they look like
the physical objects you are familiar with.
12. • Allegories- These are stories, or a series of
analogies. The key is that these stories are familiar
enough that we don’t have to retell them, but we
should analogize every part of them.
13. • Softwares, Apps, Online/Cloud based apps
1. Microsoft Office-allows you to create charts and tables
automatically. Have limitations in resolution and memory capacity.
2. Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Corell-allows you to create charts
and tables manually. May take some time to learn and may take
some money to acquire but these can provide HD visuals in
various formats such as pdf, JPEG, TIFF, PNG, GIF, etc…
3. Apps-visit play store…these are apps you can download and install
on your devices that you can use even if you are offline, may only
have basic functions, speed may depend on your device….
4. Online/Cloud based apps…almost the same as the downloadable
apps but you cannot use them offline, may only have basic
functions, speed may depend on your device and Internet
connection
