1. Eat In A Clean Lunchbox
I have to look after my little sister for two weeks. My parents took a vacation and went
on a trip in Europe. I’m happy for them, but I don’t see myself in the role of a beast
tamer. She’s a little monster.
She’s ruining my furniture and is never satisfied. I don’t know what’s wrong with her.
Maybe it’s some pre-puberty thing. But she’s only 10, I was so reasonable at her age.
And she’s driving me crazy. At least I have some free time when she’s at school.
Anyway, I always send her with sandwiches and salad in her lunchbox and she always
fills it with some nasty stuff after she eats what’s in. Last time it was really grose! She
had put a snail in it and then it escaped and left sleezy traces on the table. I caught it in
the sink.
Anyway, I always find it hard to wash her lunchbox. It is normal to have some food
remains in it, because I despite the packages I there are some foods that leak and spill.
Some of my friends, who have children, say they put the lunchbox directly in the
washing machine. I actually tried once, but it was no good. It fell apart, and it turned out
that was due to different quality. If it’s high quality, it wouldn’t be damaged at all. I
wouldn’t dare to do the same again though. I prefer to wash the new one by hand.
I usually fill in the sink with warm water and mix it with dish detergent. Then I moisten
a soft cloth in it and wring it out. With the damp cloth I wipe the inside and the outside
of the box. Then instead of rinsing I wipe it again with a cloth moisted in clean water.
What I do for the unpleasant smell is to prepare a weak bleach solution and water. Then
I spray inside the box and then wipe it out with a soft cloth and let it dry. Another way to
remove the odor is to make pasta from baking soda and water and leave it dry in the
lunch box. When it’s completely dry, wipe it out with a towel. I think disinfecting wipes
are a good solution, too.
Needless to say, I really count the days to my parents’ coming home to Willseden. I love
my sister, but she was such a sweet child and now she has turned into some naughty
stubborn little thing. I don’t know how mom and dad deal with her, but I hope this
‘phase’ goes away as soon as possible.
