My work experience
in a nursery
By Iloveyoumuchlyxo
Why did I choose this
placement?
This was my last choice, but I’m glad I got it.
I chose it because I have a younger sister and I enjoy looking after young kids and see how it would be if I chose this
when I was older!
Expectations of the week
I thought that I would be looking after them and helping them with paintings etc and I was right...
I also went outside in the gardens and played hide and seek.
As well as this we went to “the messy room” which had a sandpit in it and charcoal paintings, glupe and paint
I thought I’d have an hour lunch and I was right too!
What were my fears
I was worried that I wouldn’t get on with anyone and that I had dressed wrong for the job...
But, I got on with everyone and I didn’t want to leave, also I dressed fine! We didn’t have to wear nanny clothes like I
thought we did, it was all totally casual!
Sunday Evening
I wasn’t nervous at all, in fact I was excited! I was laying out my clothes on the bed after coming back from a
Fairtrade selling thing that me and Deena were involved in deciding what was right and ended up wearing jeggings
and a jumper seeing as the manager said casual.
I filled out my health and safety course leaflet and filled in the “before” activities in the Student diary.
What I felt On Monday
Morning
Yes, I don’t have to get up at 6 for once and leave at 7! I got a lie in until 8 then I would leave at 8:40 to get there for
9.
I wasn’t nervous at all and I left on time and arrived 10 minutes early just to get my things sorted etc.
I got let into the staffroom to eat during the morning break which was 10:15, so I could speak to the staff and get to
know them, which was great because they were all so nice and chatty, they made me feel at home.
What I did for lunch
On Monday and Tuesday I went home to eat because my mum was fixing some food, on Wednesday I met my mum
and we went to a pub and I had skinny fries 
Thursday, I went to the park with friends.
Friday I spent my lunch with the staff as it was my last day 
3 highlights of the week
We were all sitting around in a circle with the kids, and 3 of them were on my
lap with loads of drinks, one of them dropped their cup and went everywhere
then the second one did the same and so did the third then all of the kids in
the circle dropped their drinks, it was hilarious!
This girl called Paige was one I looked after with Michelle answered “why?”
constantly, so if Michelle or I said “get an apron on.” she would say why then
you’d explain and she’d say why again. We started imitating her throughout
the day and so on. FUNNY.
When A teacher came to visit me, I saw Mr Brennan coming up the drive and I
was like “Hide me, don’t answer the door to him.” begging Michelle but she
waited like 5 minutes then said “I’ve got to let him in.” and I was like “yeah, I
know. But say he got the wrong place.” It was amusing, but I did feel bad.
Then he came and spoke to me and I looked over at Michelle like most of the
time laughing...
What did I learn?
Never to be shy!
Ask questions if I need to!
Make the most of it because you wont be able to stay forever.
Thanks for watching
