6. Color
Under proper lighting and viewing conditions, the
amount of color in a diamond is measured using a
D-to-Z scale and are compared to a "master stone."

7. Clarity
Using an 11-step scale, clarity is tested by measuring the number
of the stone's inclusions and blemishes under 10x magnification.

8. Cut
order to determine the cut grade of the diamond, you
must calculate the things that influence its face-up
appearance. This includes the D-to-Z scale, the
stone's refracting ability, its brightness, scintillation,
overall design and the craftsmanship involved.

9. Carat Weight
Generally speaking, the heavier diamonds are more valuable. One
carat is equal to 200mg and can be divided into 100 points.

If a jeweler says the stone is a 50 pointer, it weights .5 carats.
