- 24. 2017/6/18 royfang@m-commerce.com 24 Executive Summary Since 2013, I have been independently and diligently promoting my missions of "Building a Hashtag Layer over Smart Cities in the World", with the practice to configure the SSIDs of WiFi hotspots into the so-called "Hashtags Over the Air (HOTA)." The HOTA concept is rather simple and needed only two unique abilities from the WiFi Industry: 1. Cloud Management 2. Multiple SSIDs, Emoji and Hashtag enabled These conditions are largely met today as the industry evolves, and it's not hard to imagine a totally different WiFi "beast" coming out from these small changes. If and when the HOTA concept is adopted in any large network, for example, the #ExpressWiFi from Facebook or #WiFiPassport from Softbank, we can expand the original emphasis of Basic Connectivity by adding 10's of Sponsored Channels and take users to designated landing pages (captive portals) with just single clicks very similar to the scanning of QR codes HOTA can work in parallel with QR Codes, and works in a way like launching a guided missiles to hit a target. All these HOTA channels can be added, changed and managed via cloud management, and all unused resources (channels) can be hired via an AirBnB-like platform on which renting of Advertising Channels are enabled by matching the venue and Advertisers. The HOTA channels are part of a Syndicate by design, it doesn't need to be "owned" by anyone or any organization, but each entrepreneurial individual can bring his/her own wifi hotspot into the syndicate, and channels can be hired by either the public or private sectors. If we make the syndicate a part of the Share Economy and maintain it with due respect to local authorities, certainly it will meet requirements of ad-hoc network neutrality. Warren Buffett expressed his regret in not having invested in Google, mainly because he has to pay $10~11 per click for his Geico ads nowadays. The Hota Syndicate will probably be able to serve him well both from an investment point of view and from an advertisement budgeting point of view. Last but not least, the Android camp announced in Google I/O 2017 that "Android Instant Apps is now open to all developers, so anyone can build and publish an instant app today." URL transporting and sharing had also been emphasized in the Instant App announcement as follow: "Access From Anywhere Users can get to your flagship Android experience from any URL—including search, social media, messaging, and other deep links—without needing to install your app first." With regard to the ability of URL transporting and sharing (URLing), The HOTA Syndicate will provide a new choice over QR codes that is reclaiming its importance and popularity in recent years due to its massive adoption for Instant Payment and Instant Messaging in China, and other markets. HOTA, uniquely and innovatively poised, is a new way of location based directory and advertising.
