• This research proposes the use of social
networking for facilitating verification and
comparison of the measurement data, simulation
results and models all over the world.
• This research designs a social network platform
for researchers to build networking and to share.

  1. Hello, everyone. My name is Yu-Hsiang and you can just call my English name, Vincent. I am from National Taiwan University. Today I am going to introduce my research on A Test Bed for Verifying and Comparing BIM-based Energy Analysis Tools. In fact, this is the original paper title we submitted to this conference. Recently we found that the original concept of the test bed is not enough. So we have a new concept. I am going to present it for you.
  2. Here is the outline of today’s presentation. First is the Motivation and objective. Then I will use scenario to introduce the system. In the end is the closure.
  3. First is the motivation. We have three points.
  4. First, XXXXXX. Researchers have a common methodology to develop new simulation tools or improve the old ones. Researchers first have results from their own simulation tools and then compare with measurement data or results from other simulation tools that are already verified. Through the comparison, researchers can verify if their own tools are better or more accurate.
  5. Second is XXXXXX. In the beginning we have to define exchange and share. Exchange is I have something you want and you have something I want. And we have the deal. I give you what you want and you give me what I want. That is exchange. Share is I put something in somewhere and people will come and take it to use. I may not know who you are. Even I don not know you take it. I hope we can have an environment to share. Now researchers share research outcomes by writing papers. But for other researchers like me. I cannot reach directly the data, results and models mentioned in the paper. All I can get is the figure made in Excel like bar chart, line chart. For other researchers those figures are hard to reuse. I hope in the future researchers publish papers and in the meantime, they can share data, results and models in a web-based platform.
  6. Third is XXXXX. As mentioned, verification is important to simulation tools. For being published in renowned journal, papers have to be reviewed by 3-4 domain experts., just like the left side of the figure. In the end, they publish research papers and share with everyone. In this research, we propose that researchers publish not just papers but also share data, models and results on the websites. Then, they can be reviewed and reused by other researchers in the world.

  8. That is social network. Through social network sites, researchers can share and verify data, results and models. What’s more, through social network, researchers can build networks with other researchers and networks of information. When the networks are built, the advantages of social network will become obvious. On the social network site, researchers do not have to search information actively. On the contrary, the information will come to find them.

  11. The objective is to create an environment for researchers to share.
  12. This is the user interface of the platform that has been designed so far. I think most of you here have the experience of using social network platforms. For users experience, we want researchers to know how to use the social network sites in their first glimpse. We learned from some existing famous sites. In the beginning, the user needs to define project. The project represents a package of files researchers upload. It may contain measurement data, simulation results and models. Then let’s quickly go through the interface. The middle portion lists the projects the user may be interested in. On the right portion, the recommendations by the system are shown. The site will recommend other researchers and projects you may be interested in. It is the feature of social network. Information will come to you.
  13. This shows the profile page of one user. The middle part shows the basic information of the user. The user showed in the slide is me. The right part is the recommendation. Now, let us talk more about what will be recommended through networking and how.
  14. We take the user in the previous slide as an example. That is, the user1 shown in the figure is me. The sequence of priority is the following. Let us say user2 is tracking me and I am also tracking him. This kind of users will be recommended first to me because they have the most strong connection with me. The second is the users who are tracking my projects like user3. Because they are interested in my projects. They have higher percentage to have the same interest as me. The third is the users whom I am tracking like user4. This means I am interested in them. The next question is how to rank ? There may be a lot of users that are tracking with each other. The ranking will be based on the cooperation and interaction levels. For example, the more cooperation projects the higher ranking. And the more interaction the higher ranking. Tracking events is the same concept. The users having more same tracking events with me, the higher percent to be recommended.
  15. This is from user to find projects. We use the relationship in the previous slide. From user to find users. And then the projects belonging to the users are recommended. The ranking is based on number of downloads first and then on the number of tracking. Because the more downloads means the information is more useful for users. So the ranking should be higher.
  16. This is the user interface of one project. This is a project for an experimental building in the Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute. The institute has actual measurement data and we NTU work on simulation models and results. The right side shows the recommendations. Each project has its own recommendations.
  17. Let us say that the user is now on the platform reviewing project1. User1 is the project1’s owner. Keyword1 is the category name of project1. Take the project the previous slide shows for example. Project1 is the project of the experimental building. User1 is me. The project belongs to me. Keyword1 is BIPV. Who is going to be recommended? You can see the sequence of priority. The first is based on the cooperation. The second is the keyword. The last is research organization. The institute cooperated with NTU. The researchers cooperating with me will be recommended first, And then the researchers that is tracking BIPV. The last one is the user belonging to the same research organization as me. The ranking is that the more projects the user share the higher the ranking. Then the more interactions between the projects, the higher the ranking.
  18. This is an on-going project. We are going to develop the social network site. But maybe it is better to cooperate with existing social network platform such as ResearchGate. It is a social network site for researchers. But now is focus on the connection between papers and researchers. This is the end of the presentation.
