The document discusses Jesus' prophecy about the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem and the signs that will precede his return and the establishment of his kingdom. It provides context around the fig tree parable, noting that it refers to the generation that sees the signs Jesus described, including wars, famines, earthquakes, persecution of believers, and the preaching of the gospel throughout the world. This generation will not pass away until all these things are fulfilled and Jesus returns to set up his kingdom.
Genesis 1:5 - Meditate the Scripture Daily bit by bit
The fig tree
1. THE FIG TREE
Gen 2:4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when
they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the
heavens,
The day God made the heavens and earth is a generation (it was
generated, not a time period. In Mat. 24 the thing being generated is
the return of the nation of Israel to Gods favor (Rom. 11:25-26).
A generation is the ending of one thing and creation of something
new. (Isa. 43:18-21, Tit. 3:5)
Matt 24:1-3 1 And Jesus went out, and departedfrom the temple: and his
disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple. 2 And
Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you,
There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be
thrown down. 3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came
unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what
shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
The disciples want to know three things:
when the temple will be completely destroyed
(I think this will be the start of the Tribulation, a peaceful destruction for
reconstruction Luke 21:24)
the sign of His coming
(not a church age coming but a comingfor the kingdom)
the end of the world
(worldsystem not earth, he never gave any information about the end of
the Millennium; in this passage only gives the end of the anti-christand
start of the Kingdom)
Matt 24:29 29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days …
2. The fig tree analogy takes place “after the tribulation of those
days” so let’s find the tribulation that precedes.
Matt 24:4-14 4 And Jesus answeredand said unto them, Take heed that
no man deceive you. 5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am
Christ; and shall deceive many.
6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars…the end is not yet.
7 For nation shall rise against nation, … and there shall be famines, and
pestilences,and earthquakes, in divers places.
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. (first½ of the Trib.)
9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye
shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
(The Jews are hated now but it’s not because of Jesus name… yet)
10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and
shall hate one another.
11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
12 And because iniquityshall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
(The end of the 7yrs. of Trib. / saved in an O.T. Jewish sense. Saved to
go into the Kingdom)
14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preachedin all the worldfor a
witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. (Moses and Elijah
will preach for the 1st
3 ½ yrs. the message of the gospel of the kingdom,
all nations will hear it, many Jews will believe it and become hated for Jesus
Name vss.9,15)
Matt 24:32-35 32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is
yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: 33 So
likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even
at the doors. 34 VerilyI say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all
3. these things be fulfilled. 35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my
words shall not pass away.
The generation that shall not pass is the one who “sees all these things”.
Matt 24:44-51 44 Therefore be ye also ready(seethe 10virgins Mat.25:1-13)
: for in
such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. 45 Who then is a
faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his
household, to give them meat in due season? 46 Blessed is that servant,
whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. 47 VerilyI say unto
you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. 48 But and if that evil
servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; 49 And shall
begin to smite his fellowservants, andto eat and drink with the drunken; 50
The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him,
and in an hour that he is not aware of, 51 And shall cut him asunder, and
appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and
gnashingof teeth.
Jewish connotation “servant” that is good or evil. (John 15:15 in the church
age you are not a servant even though you serve; your service is as a “help-
meet”)
Luke 21:25-33 25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon,
and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the
sea and the waves roaring; 26 Men's hearts failingthem for fear, and for
looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of
heaven shall be shaken.
27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power
and great glory. 28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then
look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh. 29 And
he spake to them a parable; Beholdthe fig tree, and all the trees; 30 When
they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is
4. now nigh at hand. 31 So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to
pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand. 32 Verily I say unto
you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled. 33 Heaven and
earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
