Bullying, abuse, mental illness, and pressure can lead people, especially youth, to experience suicidal thoughts. Suicide is a leading cause of death worldwide, with over 4 million people committing suicide each year in Canada alone. Those considering suicide should seek help by talking to a therapist, calling helplines, or opening up to trusted friends and family. To prevent further suicides, we must make others feel welcomed and supported through kindness rather than judgment, and encourage open communication about mental health issues and feelings of depression or being unwanted.

Introduction
When people commit suicide they usually don’t want to die, they just don’t want
to feel depressed anymore! Did you know that suicide is the 2nd highest cause of
youth death worldwide? Over 4 million people commit suicide in Canada each
year! Three people in Ontario commit suicide every day. Even children as young
as 10 years of age kill themselves. Even though these stats are very high, no one
likes to talk about it.
What causes people to commit suicide?
Bullying is one of the things that can lead to suicide. Often people don’t tell
anyone they’re getting bullied. The things that people say to them or the way that
people treat them makes them feel unwanted. Home issues like physical and
verbal abuse and pressure from family members can also contribute to suicide.
Mental illness is another thing that causes suicide. Mental illness is any disease
that influences the way a person thinks , feels , behaves and relates to others.
However, the combination of all of these issues can create a low self esteem
which is one of the main reasons that can lead to depression and suicidal
thoughts.
What people do to get help?
People that are thinking about suicide or have tried to commit suicide need to get
help! There are lots of things that people can do to talk about their problems. Some
people see a therapist and others use Kids Help Phone. This is a 24/7 place that
kids can call and talk to a person about what they are feeling and can get resources
to help them. Some people just talk to a family member or friend about what they are
feeling and get advice.

2. How we can prevent more people from committing
suicide?
We can make sure that people feel welcomed and wanted by not judging them
and giving compliments to people not hurtful comments. We should encourage
people to speak out and express their feelings! Sometimes we need to tell
people that we are there for them and that they can come talk to us if they need
to talk to someone about how they are feeling. Sometimes we just need to listen!

Committing suicide is what people do so they don’t feel depressed or unwanted
anymore. I believe that there are so many other ways to stop feeling suicidal and
its time that we all start talking about it and not feel ashamed of these feelings!
Committing suicide is not the answer! There is always help and a solution to your
