Chapter 5 - The Woods (part 2 of 2)

The light was fading, creating new shadows and dark patches around us. The wind blew softly
between the trees, their trunks distorted in shape as we sprinted past. I lifted my face, letting the
light and shadow dance across my skin. I ducked underneath arms that wavered out from the
dense trees, and hurdled tree roots that jutted out from the flaked soil. I roared out into the green,
hoping the voice would respond, and reply. "Hello?" I stood still as my voice echoed, and carried
along the gentle breeze. Seconds passed like hours, but no reply came. I looked down at
Charmander, down by my side. "What should we do? Whoever screamed could be anywhere in
this forest" I said, glancing through the gaps in the green. He shrugged his tangerine shoulders,
and looked around as well. Tension filled the forest, more and more carried in by the breeze. I
sighed, and looked around. "I don't know what else we can do, Charmander."

Without warning, the bushes to our left exploded into life. As she flew past, I couldn't make out
much of her appearance. Lustrous auburn hair flapped across her face as she ran, her white top
blustering in the wind, and the branches that jutted out from the landscape scratching at her
jeans. "RUN!" She screamed, cradling a Pokemon in her hands. I turned, and watched her run
away, and wondered exactly what she was running from. I looked left, to see what she had been
running from, and gulped. A vibrating cloud of black dots became clearer, and I closed my eyes in
fear. I opened them again, "There's too many, we can't run. Charmander, Ember!"

Charmander gulped in fear, and stepped in front of me. Spewing a fiery cloud, he growled, as our
danger drew closer. "Try give it more power Charmander!" I roared, the buzzing becoming louder.
The buzzing cloud was engulfed by flame, red, yellow and orange swallowing their beating wings.
An echoing cry of pain came out from the buzz, and I smiled. The orange faded, revealing the
Pokemon that had been chasing the young girl, and that had been heading straight for us.
"Beedrill, the Poison Bee Pokemon. It can take down any opponent with its powerful poison
stingers. It often attacks in swarms."

As my Pokedex finished reading the description, of the downed Beedrill struggled, and took to the
air - cautiously. It's wings flapped slower now, clearly weakned by the powerful blast of fire that
had engulfed it. Without warning, the Beedrill darted towards Charmander, stingers lowered.
"Charmander, avoid those stingers at all costs!" I screamed, noting the danger that DEX had
warned me of. As the Beedrill attacked, Charmander quickly dodged, rolling to the right, and
sliding through the damp grass. As I turned to look over my shoulder, the Beedrill flew just over
my head, and flew just in front of Charmander. It suddenly began to glow, a deep dark silver. The
Beedrill began to flash, and distort, and in doing so, more Beedrill appeared from thin air, and
circled Charmander. I gulped, not sure what to do. "Charmander, attack the Beedrill in front of
you!"

Charmander charged head first, growling, and pounced towards the Beedrill directly in front of
him. However, the Beedrill distorted as Charmander flew through it, and slammed hard into the
middle of a dark tree trunk. I groaned. The Beedrill's slowly hovered towards Charmander, and
circled him again. "How can we tell which Beedrill is the real one?" I said under my breath,
racking my brain. As if a light bulb flashed inside, I smiled "Charmander, spin in a circle and use
Ember again!"

Charmander nodded, growled, and began to spin. He slowly quickened, round and round. He
growled as he span, and opened his mouth, hissing dark red flames into a fiery tornado. Soon,
the whole circle was engulfed in a fiery tower, that rose high into the darkening evening sky
above. "Wow," said a voice from behind me. I looked over my shoulder to see the girl that had
exploded from the bush earlier. "Ha, give me two minutes to finish this" I smiled, "Charmander,
that should do it!" The flames begin to subside, and as the tower lowered, revealing the burnt tops
of the trees, I laughed. As the flames cleared, they revealed the unconsicious Beedrill, and the
elated Charmander. He struck a masculine pose, his arm raised in a fist, and the girl next to me
laughed. As Charmander walked to my side, it was only then that I actually got a good look at the
girl I had helped.

Auburn hair lined fair, rosy cheeks. I looked into her warm, hazel eyes, and was met with a smile.
Her hair blustered slightly in the breeze, and her dark, thick lips windened, revealing a perfect
smile. "Thanks," She smiled, her cheeks reddening slightly.
"No problem, glad we could help to be honest," I smiled. The Pokemon cradled in her arms
wriggled, and she let it down by her side.
"Eevee, stay close, we don't to run into anymore Beedrill!" She laughed.
"Eevee, the Evolution Pokemon. A rare Pokemon that adapts to harsh environments by taking on
different evolutionary forms."
"I've heard about Eevee," I smiled "Do you know which evolution you want?"
"We're not sure, are we Eevee?" She said, as she stroked the mane of her small, furry
companion. Her Eevee looked up at her, and purred gently. "Oh, by the way, I'm Megan."
"I'm Dan, and this is Charmander," I smiled.
"Well it's nice to meet you both" She smiled in return.
"I think it'd be best to get out of this forest, before anymore angry Bug Pokemon turn up!" I
laughed.
"Sounds like a plan!" Megan replied.
