VKV in Andaman & Nicobar
Vivekananda Kendra, established by Sri Eknathji Ranade in Kanyakumari, focuses on 'man-making and nation-building', with a network of schools across Andaman & Nicobar Islands since 1974. The Kendra has built various institutions including schools at different levels, managing them through a memorandum of understanding with local bodies, while also adapting to financial support changes from 2013. The schools aim to provide quality education with a structure of fees and educational management consistent with government regulations and community needs.

- 2. Vivekananda Kendrawas established by Mananeeya Sri Eknathji Ranade, which has its headquarters at Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu. The main aim and objective of Vivekananda Kendra is Man Making and Nation Building
- 3. Swami Vivekanandavisited Kanyakumari and sat there from 25 – 27th December 1892 on the Sreepad parai, a rock in the mid sea. On this sanctified place, late Mananeeya Sri Eknathji Ranade, with the participation of 30 lakhs of people along with support of Govt. of India constructed Vivekananda Rock Memorial.
- 5. Vivekananda Kendrastarted its service activities in Andaman & Nicobar Islands in 1974 with a nursery school in Port Blair.
- 6. At presentthe school is of Senior Secondary level and offers Science and Commerce streams. In 1988 first batch of class X appeared in CBSE exam while in the year 2000 first batch of XII appeared in CBSE exam.

- 10. • By OurEndless Efforts Of Serving To Mankind Zilla Parishad and Nagar Palika A & N Islands came forward to support Vivekananda Kendra in opening 7 more schools in A & N Islands with the name of Vivekananda Kendra Zilla Parishad Vidyalaya and Vivekananda Kendra Nagar Palika Vidyalaya • These schools are owned by Zilla Parishad and Nagar Palika and managed by Vivekananda Kendra Kanya Kumari • These schools were financially managed by collection of fees up to 2013.
- 11. • On implementationof RTE and administration’s restrictions and salary hike of teachers in 6th pay commission Vivekananda Kendra was compelled to withdraw the MoU and opted to hand over the schools to local bodies. • Due to pressure from the parents of these schools and intervention of administration, it was decided to support these schools with financial assistance Zilla Parishad and Nagar Palika. • Hence from 2013 - 14 onwards the MoU was duly amended and schools were left to be managed by Vivekananda Kendra Kanya Kumari with the support of Zilla Parishad and Nagar Palika.

- 19. Vivekananda KendraZilla Parishad Schools and Vivekananda Nagar Palika Schools are governed and supervised by a governing body drawn from Zilla Parishad/ Municipal Council and Vivekananda Kendra. The management of these school are carried out by Vivekananda Kendra by a memorandum of understanding arrived at between Kendra and Zilla Parishad/ Nagar Palika.
- 20. Teachers requiredfor filling up vacancies are selected by calling for applications through advertisement in news papers, and subject wise applicants are called for interview by an interview board. The interview board is constituted by drawing senior teachers from among VKV Port Blair and SMC members.
- 21. For allschools VKVs, VKVZPVs and VKVNPV, salary and other perquisites are decided by Vivekananda Kendra through its representative at Port Blair. In deciding this the Kendra takes Pay commission report and the minimum wages declared by the Andaman & Nicobar administration from time to time as guidance.
