WHY THIS TOPIC?
Dengue has become a global
problem since the second
world war and is common in
more than 120 countries,
mainly in Asia and South
America. About 390 million
people are infected a year and
approximately 40,000 died.
As we know to spread of
awareness about “dengue” is
very essential .
Here on the basis of project
report I am going to light on
the “awareness about Dengue
among Youth.
INTRODUCTION
Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne tropical disease
caused by the Dengue virus. Symptoms typically
begin three to fourteen days after infection. dengue
symptoms include a high fever, headache, vomiting ,
muscle, and joint pain and a characteristic skin rash,
Recovery generally takes two to seven days.
Dengue is spread by several species of female
mosquitoes of the Aedes type . methods of
prevention include reducing mosquito habitat and
limiting exposure to bites.
Dengue virus is primarily transmitted by Aedes
mosquitoes. Aedes mosquito bite during the early
morning and in the evening.
LITERATURE REVIEW
1. According to Journal of International Society of Preventive &
Community Dentistry (2016):-
Dengue is an acute viral illness caused by RNA virus of the family
Flaviviridae and spread by Aedes mosquitoes.
Presenting features may range from asymptomatic fever to dreaded
complications such as hemorrhagic fever and shock. A cute-onset high
fever, muscle and joint pain, myalgia, cutaneous rash, hemorrhagic
episodes, and circulatory shock are the commonly seen symptoms.
2. Accoding to A Europian Journal Tropical Medicine & International
Health:-
Dengue remains a major and growing public health threat worldwide. With
the most recent study estimating that global infection rates of 390 million
infections occur annually (Bhatt et al. 2013), the need for improved
dengue surveillance is evident. Dengue surveillance is essential for the
detection of outbreaks and, in the longer term, to monitor disease trends.
In order to trigger timely interventions, outbreak alerts are particularly
important to mobilise vector control and to prime or re-organise healthcare
delivery services in preparation for a surge in suspected cases. Although
vector control tools can be effective in principle, implementation remains
an issue and effective dengue routine prevention is rarely achieved,
particularly in high-density urban communities
3. According to The New England Journal of Medicine
(April 12, 2012) By Cameron P. Simmons:-
There are an estimated 50 million infections per year with the
dengue virus, which is transmitted primarily by urban-adapted
Aedes aegyptimosquitoes. This review summarizes
pathophysiology and treatment as well as prospects for a
vaccine and for vector-control approaches
4. In an article named “Dengue 101: knowing the disease,
what to expect, what to look for”, published in Sun. Star
Davao newspaper (2010):-
Dengue infection is a systemic and dynamic disease. It has a
wide clinical spectrum that includes both severe and non
severe clinical manifestations. After the incubation period, the
illness begins abruptly and followed by the three phases–
febrile, critical and recovery. It is in febrile phase where the
total count of white blood cells begins to decrease in number.
According to the Philippine Daily Inquirer issue (2012), the
signs and symptoms of dengue are high continuous fever
lasting for 2-7 days, nausea, and vomiting, abdominal pain,
body weakness, bleeding tendencies from nose and gums,
persistent red spots on the face, extremities and trunks which
are the most common manifestation of the said illness.
OBJECTIVE
To assess the
knowledge of Dengue
and preventive
measures and to know
association of
awareness about
dengue infection in
youth.
HYPOTHESIS
1)
H0: There is no significant association between
respondent’s gender and getting benefit from working for
prevention of dengue .
H1: There is significant association between respondent’s
gender and getting benefit from working for prevention of
dengue .
2)
H0: There is no significant association to respondent’s
response on Heard about dengue fever and it’s fatal for
health
H1: There is significant association to respondent’s
response on Heard about dengue fever and it’s fatal for
health
SAMPLING DESIGN
To conduct any survey we should select a sample from a
population. As we know if area of survey is too small or too
large then it produce more errors , keeping this concept in
mind I decided to collected my sample from the students of
BANARAS HINDU UNIVERSITY. Total no. of respondents
in my survey are100.
A group of units or elements which have well defined
characteristics under study , called Population . The
population may be finite or infinite a finite population is one
in which unit of population is finite and A infinite population
is one in which member of population is
infinite.
A sample is a finite subset of statistical individuals in a
population and a number of individuals/unit in a sample is
called a sample size. On the basis of sample we can
estimate about the population in which we are interested.
The sample was selected by using random sampling as
sampling technique.
