TRAINING SESSION
Date 15/10/2014 Dominant
Objectives
To improve sectoral and intersectoral issues in a 1
structure with one defensive midfielder and 2 central
midfielder’s.
1) Warm-up– 30 min.
5 min. of continuous running
6 min. complementary strength work
30’’L+30’’R, quadruped arm/leg raise 30’’+30’’
7 min. General mobilization –
backwards, lateralized, frontal), dynamic stretching, lounges,
proprioceptive exercises, squats.
12 min. Rondo with transition +
rondo will be intersected with 1min. of
sprints with changes of direction.
Coaching points.
Offensively: to work on positional issues
supports orientation, pass quality, progression pass (diagonal),
orientation to the player in possession. We also want to improve the
moment to take off the ball from the pressure zone, passing it to other
space (short game to fix the opponents alternated with long passes to
create rupture in the opponent defensive structure).
to work on the role of 1st defender
movement, change of behavior (defensive cover) when the other
colleague is nearer the ball; and the role of
2A) Sectoral behavior of the defensive line
Coaching points
Offensively – To develop behaviors on the 1
under pressure: CD’s give length to the GK to assure lateral passing
lines, receiving the ball in less dangerous zones and where they can
have a good insight in the pitch to choose the best action; F
depth to the team’s game in the wings and adjust their position according
to the ball carrier (more or less deep to provide a passing line to the CD).
Defensively – To work on individual and sectoral behavior of the last
defensive line: the nearest defender to the ball reduces space, reacting
aggressively to the ball displacement; positional adjustment of the other
defenders to cover the “strong side” and the central corridor (2
provides defensive cover, 3rd defender provides balance and the last
defender provides numeric superiority on the central area and his feet
are orientated to control de ball trajectory and to control an attacker that
may enter in his back).
Load: 2x3min with 1 min of active recovery.
Note: These players perform 2 repetitions and after this they will switch
with the colleagues and will perform the

2B) Sectoral behavior of the midfield and offensive sector – 7min.
Coaching points
Offensively – To create space over pressure: positional switches
between space no receive the ball or to create space to teammates
(mobility); to circulate the ball with close supports (high speed of ball
transmission, offensive cover actions and evolvements in the back of the
ball carrier); To play between lines of the opposite team by breaking their
organization with rupture movements.
Defensively – To work on individual and sectoral behaviors of the last
defensive line: the nearest defender to the ball reduces space, reacting
aggressively to the ball displacement; positional adjustment of the other
defenders to cover the “strong side” and the central corridor (2nd defender
provides defensive cover and 3rd defender provides balance.
Load: 4x90 sec. with 90 sec. of active recovery. Each team plays 2
games, intersected with active recovery while the other 2 teams play.
Note: These players perform 2 repetitions and after this they will switch
with the colleagues and will perform the 2A drill.
2A + 2B = 14 min.
RULES:
Groups of 3 divided accordingly to their sector: intermediate (1
defensive midfielder – DM; 2 central midfielders – CM). The game
occurs in the specified pitch (32x28m). The purpose of the drill is to
score on the mini-goals and the defense cannot enter the space
between red markers and the goal line, until the ball enters there.
Offensively this space can be explored, but we will apply the
offside rule.
3) Intersectoral drill :linking intermediate and offensive sectors and
sectoral defensive work of the last line – 16 min.
Coaching points
Offensively – To create space over pressure: positional switches
between space no receive the ball or to create space to teammates
(mobility); to circulate the ball with close supports (high speed of ball
transmission, offensive cover actions and evolvements in the back of the
ball carrier); The action of the ST to create space: leaving the central
zone to the wings, approximating the ball carrier (frontal support) and
entering in rupture in the back of the defenders. To change mentality in
offensive transition: FB’s project themselves to explore the depth by the
wings to create instability in the opponent’s defensive lines or to create
space to the CD during the 1st phase of construction play.
Defensively – To work on individual and sectoral behavior of the last
defensive line: the nearest defender to the ball reduces space, reacting
aggressively to the ball displacement; positional adjustment of the other
defenders to cover the “strong side” and the central corridor (2nd defender
provides defensive cover, 3rd defender provides balance and the last
defender provides numeric superiority on the central area and his feet
are orientated to control de ball trajectory and to control an attacker that
may enter in his back).
Load: 4x4min. with 4min. of active recovery. Each team plays 2 games,
intersected and during recovery they perform Nordic hamstrings 2x8
reps.
RULES:
The team of 6 tries to enter the end zone to finalize the offensive
process. The defensive line, closes depth passing lines and when
gains ball possession tries to score fast in the 3 mini-goals available.
The defensive line only can enter the end zone when the ball enters
on that space. The red box simulates the between lines space where
the striker (ST) moves to: 1) creates space for other players; or 2)
receives the ball and acts as frontal support.

4) Intersectoral drill linking intermediate and offensive sectors and
sectoral defensive work of the last line – 20 min.
Rules
2 Teams of 7 players (4 defenders + 3 forwards). Plus 6 players (green)
that play in favor of the team in possession (3 at a time). The game starts
with a situation of 6 vs. 4+GK, with the team trying to finalize and the
other closing spaces, waiting for the correct moment to gain ball
possession, When they get the ball, the green players can help them on
the transition between 1st and 2nd phase of construction and their purpose
is to give that ball to the other 3 green players in the neutral area in the
middle. In this phase blue forwards + green midfielders attack the other
goal. In the 2nd part of the drill, FB’s can attack. Note: If the game extends
for more that 2 min., coach will change the attacking side.
Coaching points
Offensively – To apply all the coaching points from previous drills. To
potentiate fast offensive transitions, to link as fast as possible defensive
and midfield sectors of play.
Defensively – To apply all the coaching points from previous drills.
Load: 2x8min. with 2min. of active recovery.
VOLUME: 80MIN.
