Physical Fitness Involvement Among Young Adults and its Relation to other Activities
The lack of physical activities is the major cause of many non-communicable diseases
like obesity, high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and diabetes in young adults
and children. The various studies and surveys done in the various countries of the World suggest
that there is a significant relation between these diseases with the physical activities
(Chandrashekhar T Sreeramareddy, et al. 2012; FB Ortega, et al. 2008; Vicente Martinez
Vizcaino, et al. 2008 ). In the present paper, an online survey was carried out by the opinion poll
research committee in the University of Tunkun Abdul Rahman, Malaysia. In this survey, 474
participants that come in the category of young adult had been asked to answer the Short
International Physical Activity Questionnaire about the factors affecting physical health that was
adapted from various published studies. The level of significance, which correlates physical
activity with non-communicable diseases, was calculated on the scale of MET (Metabolic
Equivalent) hours and minutes. Physical activity among the young adults of the survey was
considered sufficient when MET minute was>840, and vice versa. This pilot survey among
young adults of Malaysia proved that nearly half of the students have done sufficient physical
activities and nearly quarter of them have minimal physical activity. The results show that
although demographics were not associate with physical activity, but being male and social
support for physical activity was directly associated with sufficient physical activity on
univariate analyses. Although, this difference was not found in multivariate analyses. This survey
study suggests that if young adults have been provided with proper facilities for physical
activities, then it can raise their frequency of doing physical activities, and thereby improves
their overall health and immunity (Chandrashekhar T Sreeramareddy, 2012).

In the next research paper by FB Ortega, et al. (2008), a brief explanation of the Swedish
research done by EYHS (European Youth Heart Study) was done on many children from the age
group of 0-16 years. The research was based on the risk factors of future CVD (Cardiovascular
Disease), which suggests that high cardio-respiratory fitness level has a significant impact on the
physical fitness and total adiposity. Some of the main factors of human body, which are directly
related to health and physical fitness like skeletal health, cancer, and mental health, had also been
discussed on the basis of the study done by EYHS. One of the major health related concerns
among todayâs children is skeletal health. There are many diseases related to skeletal health and
osteoporosis is one of the main diseases. This paper suggests that extra gains in bone mass
during growth could be crucial to achieve high peak bone mass, thereby prevent osteoporosis
fracture later in life. This study proved that bone mineral content of the whole body was directly
associated with physical fitness, including cardiovascular, agility/speed, and respiratory fitness
among adolescents. Further, there is strong evidence that physical health directly impacts the
mental health of young children. It has been proved from these various studies that cardio-
respiratory fitness can directly affect the level of depression and self esteem among young
children. So, an improvement in fitness of cardio-respiratory system is crucial, for the overall
psychological and mental well being of young children (FB Ortega, 2008).
Finally, in our last research paper by Vincent Martinez, et al. (2008), association of many
diseases like obesity, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and cancer with physical
fitness is analyzed in detail. The author argued that although the terms âphysical activity,â
âphysical fitness,â and âphysical exercise,â seem correlated, but they should not be treated
synonymously in the context of health. In general, we can say that âphysical activityâ refers to the
physical movement of our body, which requires consumption of energy. On the other hand,

âphysical exerciseâ can be defined as planned activity, which can be used to maintain components
of physical fitness. Finally, âphysical fitnessâ can be defined as the measurement of our various
bodily functions, which are directly connected to physical activity and/or physical exercise. The
study done by FB Ortega et al is significant for its effort and precision in measuring physical
activity and fitness. It also provides a brief data related to the relationship between suggestions
for physical activity and physical fitness, and also the importance of gender in this relationship
(Vincent Martinez, 2008).
