2. INTRODUCTION
In a 1973 study, 20 volunteers got drunk once a week for 8
consecutive weeks, each time on a different alcoholic
beverage, and each time with precisely the same dosage— this
was science, after all.

Goal of
experiment
To find out which alcoholic drinks cause worse hangovers
5. 20XX PRESENTATION TITLE 5
The molecule responsible for hangovers is.
Ethanol referred to as
alcohol
6. Ethanol is present in all
alcoholic beverages,
and generally
speaking, the more
ethanol, the greater the
potential for a hangover.
7. HOW DOES ALCOHOL CAUSES
HANGOVER?
7
1.Alcohol slows down the communication between neural cells.
2.It disrupts levels of many hormones. One of those hormones is
cortisol.
3.Interferes with is vasopressin hormone, which normally decreases the
volume of urine made by the kidneys and causes people to pee more
and become dehydrated leading to thirst, dry mouth, weakness,
lightheadedness, and headache.
4.It damages mitochondria, which are responsible for producing the
ATP that gives us energy.
8. HOW DOES ALCOHOL CAUSES
HANGOVER?
8
1.It stimulates the immune system, leading to inflammation that can
damage cells within the brain, affect mood, and impair memory.
2.It also slow down stomach emptying, which could lead to increased
production of gastric acid. This is why alcohol can cause stomach pain,
nausea, and vomiting.
9. 9
It is proven that some substances that are
meant to add flavor to alcoholic
Beverages thence to worsen hangovers
compared to when closest to It pure state. e.g.
Methanol.
10. 20XX PRESENTATION TITLE 10
Which means
beverages like( gin and
vodka) closer to pure
ethanol , may cause
fewer hangover effects
compared to
14. 20XX PRESENTATION TITLE 14
Alcohol has a characteristic
hydroxy group (OH) that is
polar.
“This means alcohol would
be more soluble in water
than in fat ",.
According to chemistry, fat is
highly non-polar.
16. GENETICS
20XX PRESENTATION TITLE 16
Ulrike Heberlein at the University of California at San
Francisco, US, and Henrike Scholz from the University of
Würzburg in Germany, discovered a gene that help fruit flies
develop alcohol tolerance.
They called it “hangover”
The gene also controls the flies’ response to stress.

HANGOVER REMEDY
1. Drinking water and electrolyte beverages(Cow milk, fruit juice,
coconut water etc) can help reduce symptoms related to
dehydration.
2. And eating especially carbohydrates can help replenish the
glucose levels alcohol reduces.
3. But ultimately, the only sure way to prevent a hangover is to drink
alcohol in moderation or not at all.
