What is Mototurismo? To begin with, a specialty with a self-explanatory name. Motorcycle
tourism. Until now, it was a "concentration championship". The concentrations of motorcycles
are a tradition and a meeting point to discuss experiences and tell us all battles. But in the
Federation we believe that the Mototurismo concept should be relaunched because we do not
believe in a static contest. Concentrations, yes ... But as a final point to comment on the
"mototurismo" itself, which implies travel, movement, motorcycle tourism. Badly you can do
tourism in motorcycle supported in the bar of a bar.
The traditional formula of "concentration championship" was dying. For many reasons. One of
them, without a doubt, the cost of the license. The license of the Federation is, by statute, the
same for any competitive specialty as for Mototourism. That is, undoubtedly, unfair, because
most of the cost of the license is sports insurance ... And obviously that insurance makes all the
sense when one competes in a closed circuit, but on an open road, where mototourism is
disputed, which It must exist is a circulation insurance with occupants.
So, to start with our part, in the Federation we have looked for a solution a legal solution so
that the license becomes a credential, a regulatory figure to be able to participate in
Mototurismo but without the high cost of sports insurance that, I repeat, here would imply a
duplication with the obligatory insurance (eye, with occupants) to circulate.
After that, we will have a cheap way to participate in the championship. But now we must
make an attractive championship, which moves many motorists and not the small group that
passed through the contest last year.
Therefore, understanding the value of the concentrations as the end point of the activity, but
without linking them to it, we want the Mototurismo to be real motorbike tourism. We are
going to distribute it throughout the geography, we are going to do less but better tests and
we are going to force them to be tourist and varied. The Route of the Monasteries, the Peaks
of the Sierra, the Landscapes of the Region ... That will be the new leitmotif of the
championship, in which it will be necessary for the attendees to go to each of the touristic
points of the route to score points. Not only that: it will be necessary to be interested in what
one sees, to know something of the history or the importance of the place, it will not be
enough to "take the picture" ...
As we are telling you in this newsletter, in the RFME we are constantly looking for new
formulas for each of our disciplines. Only if we try new solutions can we find formulas of
success for the future.

Motor-tourism is a tourist modality that, despite having gained popularity in recent years, is
by no means a recent invention. The first written references on this concept go back to 1915,
year in which the writer Theodore J. Werle published "Camping hints when touring with a
motorcycle, Harley-Davidson Motor Company".
That book was, in fact, a prototype of camping guide specially designed for American bikers
who, encouraged by the advice and recommendations contained in its pages, began to travel
their own country in a way hitherto unknown.
Motorcycle rental, a more affordable travel alternative
What not everyone knows is that, in the development of this incipient industry, the Spanish
factory motorcycles had a lot to do with it. At least that is what in an interview has assured
Efetur Javier Garmendia, president of the Spanish Mototurismo Association (Aemotur). In this
sense, many of the motorcycles that were used in the United States for tourism in the middle
of the last century were of Iberian origin, "as shown by many photographs of the time in which
you can see different models of the brands Montesa and Bultaco "
Motorcycling in Europe and Spain
The leap of motor-tourism to Europe took place, especially profusely, at the end of World War
II. It was in the postwar period when the motorcycle became not only "a fast and cheap means
of transport", but a vehicle on which "to feel free and adventurous". The phenomenon, far
from losing steam with the appearance of affordable cars, has been experiencing an increasing
boom. So much so that, according to the European Touring Route, today there are "10 million
active motorcyclists who, at least, are launched 20 times a year" to travel the roads of the Old
Continent.
In Spain, motorcycling was developed in a very similar way. Although our country did not
participate in the last great international war, it experienced its own Civil War, which "left the
roads in a very precarious state". In a way, this type of tourism "was driven by the
circumstances".
Today, who gets on a motorcycle to tour does so for reasons "purely hedonistic, either on their
own, or registering in initiatives like Aemotur." Unlike the motorcycles, "the members of the
Association do not stay for a simple walk, but we go out in search of tourist experiences using
the motorcycle as a means, not as an end". Thus, besides enjoying "the curves and the
generally mountainous landscapes, we also enjoy visits to monasteries, watchtowers, caves
and other resources that, sometimes closed to the public, open for us thanks to the weight of
the Association".

Did you know that the bike spends on average 30 times less gas than a medium car? During
the last years, the companies dedicated to the rent of motorcycles have continued growing
and growing and it is that now, not only they center their activity in the rent of motorbike for
sightseeing in the city.
They also have a place to rent luxury motorcycles or rent motorbikes for big trips such as the
Norwegian Fjords or the Black Forest.
The time is gold! Therefore, if you want to move without problems and avoid traffic jams that
will make you lose your mind, renting a motorbike is a perfect option to enjoy your trip.
When I travel, what interests me the most is the people, because only by speaking with her is
the environment known.
But really, what do you need to rent a motorcycle?
The most important thing you should take with you is your ID since it is the first thing you will
be asked for and the valid driving license in Spain or the corresponding moped license for
bigger displacement bikes.
For 125cc bikes you need a B driving license with at least 3 years of experience.
For motorcycles between 150 and 300cc you need A1 driving license with at least 1 year of
experience.
In all cases, the permit must be in force.
The deposit is an amount that the user must deposit, either in cash or as a deduction on his
card to cover expenses such as damage to the motorcycle, theft of the same, unfilled fuel and
any other expense not included in the rental contract. If no expense is generated, it will be
returned in full when the motorcycle is returned.
For example, if the deposit of your rent is € 250 and you have an accident with damages of €
100, you will be refunded € 150. In case the damages amount to, for example, € 600, you will
have to pay the difference, that is, € 350
Chicken-trans Motorcycle insurance included when renting a motorbike
Not only do we tell you because we are one of the leaders in motorcycle insurance if not
because it will be of great importance for your safety. There are different companies dedicated
to the rental of motorcycles and each one has its conditions and particularities. However, it
will be vital that before signing a contract for motorcycle rental, you are aware of what the
motorcycle insurance covers.
4. Does the motorcycle insurance cover the loss of the keys? Is the tire puncture insured in my
motorcycle insurance? Are damages to third parties and occupants covered in my motorcycle
insurance?
Remember that in case of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or when the
motorcycle is driven by an unauthorized person, the motorcycle insurance will be
automatically canceled.

Below you will find the main types of scooters that you can find in the market, from the
smallest to the largest, from the most urban to the most touristic, so you can define which is
the one that may interest you the most. All are the ideal vehicle to ride a motorcycle in town,
although there are some more manageable than others. Do not forget the advantages of
moving on a scooter around the city.
A moped can be both a scooter and a motorcycle and what makes it a moped is the size of its
motor. As a general rule, a moped is a motorcycle or a scooter with a displacement of no more
than 50 cc, which depending on the country or state conditions it to circulate only on certain
types of roads.
Thanks to its small size, lightness and low power are the best step to start on two wheels,
perfect for the young, for an urban use or that does not require great benefits. They are the
best option for the most beginner motorcyclists. Their consumption is also especially
contained. Keep reading "
A citizen scooter is the one designed to move in the city or in an urban environment. They are
scooters of reduced dimensions, very compact and especially light and manageable.
They usually have no or little aerodynamic protection, they do not offer much comfort and the
space is reduced to the minimum to guarantee their agility. They are especially practical and
useful scooters, without great luxuries but very functional. They also have very low gasoline
consumption.
Design scooters often share characteristics with citizen scooters, such as size and lightness, but
where design takes a leading role.
Elegant lines, modern, classic, retro, vintage or daring that make the rest of its characteristics
go to a second place and it is only its beauty that enamors its followers.
5. The high-wheel scooters are those that offer a behavior more similar to that of a motorcycle
when riding 15 or 16-inch wheels instead of the classic 12, 13 or 14 inches of the rest of the
scooters.
Larger wheels translate into greater stability, better cornering and greater safety against road
imperfections. However, when occupying the back wheel more space, it is usually lost part of
the space that the scooters offer under the seat thus decreasing its load capacity and
practicality.
A sporty scooter is always committed to an aggressive and modern design, with specially
chosen components, good performance and first class behavior.
In addition to some suggestive lines, a sports scooter offers a particularly rigid chassis, firm
suspensions, a good feel of the front wheel, an aggressive driving position and a large ground
clearance to allow fast, unrestricted cornering when tipping.
A Gran Turismo scooter, or GT scooter, does not have to be a large displacement scooter. Any
scooter, up to 125 cc, can belong to this category.
They are bulky scooters, with great aerodynamic protection and a comfortable seat for both
occupants to facilitate long journeys. They usually offer a large load capacity under the seat
but their large size reduces lightness and agility in the city. They are ideal for transfers
between the city and its periphery.
The term MegaScooter was born as brands were offering increasingly bigger and more
powerful models. They are scooters with large displacement engines and high performance,
designed to travel long distances at fast pace, high weight and little agility, so they are not the
most recommended for the city or beginner users.
You can find Mega Scooters either Sports, High Wheel, Gran Turismo or even Three Wheels.
They are usually the most comfortable if we take a passenger on the scooter. Keep reading "
Electric scooters are the last to arrive and little by little they are making their way into the
market. More and more brands offer in their ranks some electric option and respectful with
the environment, replacing the gasoline engines by generally large lithium-ion batteries (Li-
Ion).
Among its disadvantages is the autonomy of the current batteries and the lack of recharging
points, which time will be solved and will be linked to its cleanliness, silence and zero
emissions. At the moment still have a price somewhat higher than traditional gasoline
scooters. Keep reading "

What is a scooter or electric scooter, history and evolution
A scooter is an open-wheel motorcycle, usually with a small wheel, that has the engine and
transmission elements inside a fairing that supports the seat and a base that allows the feet to
be placed. The name comes from the English "scooter" scooter, since the first ones, built in
England, were basically reinforced scooters equipped with a small motor.
Certain elements of the design of the scooters have been present in some of the first
motorcycles, and already before 1914 they had been manufactured and were easily
identifiable. The evolution of the scooter continued in Europe and the USA, during the
interwar period, but the universal popularity of this type of vehicle was after the postwar
period of the Second World War, with the appearance of the first models of Vespa and
Lambretta. , created to provide low power personal transport (50 to 250 cc engines). The
original design is still widely used in this sector. The maxi-scooters, with 250 to 800 cc engines,
have been developed for western markets.
Scooters are popular for personal transportation, in part because of their low purchase and
maintenance costs with advantages such as ease of parking and storage capacity. The
requirements for driving licenses are easier and less expensive than those of cars in most
countries, and insurance is generally cheaper.
History
Predecessors of the scooter
Around the 1900s began to appear features of the scooters in the design of motorcycles. In
1894, Hildebrand & Wolfmüller produced the first motorcycle available in the market. It had a
fuel tank mounted on the down tube and two parallel cylinder engine on the bottom of the
frame (the cylinders, mounted in line with this). The engine was water cooled, with the
radiator incorporated in the upper part of the rear mudguard. This model became the first
two-wheel motor vehicle to be produced in series and commercialized, as well as being one of
the first to be propelled mainly by its engine and not by the pedals.
The maximum speed was 40 km / h. The rear wheel was propelled directly by bars from the
pistons in a manner similar to the driving wheels of the steam locomotives. Only a few
hundred units were manufactured, and the high cost and technical difficulties condemned the
company to financial failure, both for Wolfmüller and its capitalist partner, Hildebrand.
In France the Auto-Fauteuil was introduced in 1902. It was mostly a motorcycle with a fauteuil
armchair instead of the traditional armchair. The production continued until 1922.
7. The first generation (1915-1930)
The 1915 went into production the Motoped, considered the first scooter. That same year
followed the Autoped, whose engine was started by pushing the column of the handlebar
forward, and the brakes all throwing back. The Autoped was manufactured in Long Island, New
York, from 1915 to 1921, and in Germany by Krupp, under license, from 1919 to 1922.
The number of manufacturers and designs of scooters increased after World War I. In 1919 the
Skootamota, the Kenilworth, and the Reynolds Runabout appeared, followed in 1920 by the
Unibus of the Gloucestershire Aircraft Company. The Skootamota stood out for being practical,
popular and economical, the Kenilworth for its electric lighting and the Reynolds Runabout for
its advanced specifications, such as the previous suspension, two-speed gearbox, front shield
and pneumatic seat with springs and coil springs. The Unibus also had a two-speed gearbox,
but its most notable feature was the complete body, similar to the one that appeared later, in
the second and third generation of scooters.
The reputation of the first generation scooters was damaged by an excess of unstable
machines with flexible frames, while the best products, such as Reynolds Runabout and
Unibus, were too expensive to be competitive. The first generation ended by the mid-1920s.

E. Foster Salsbury and Austin Elmore developed the Salsbury Motor Glide, a scooter with the
seat on top of the closed drive train, and they started production in 1936 in California. In 1938,
Salsbury introduced a more powerful motorcycle with continuous variable transmission, being
the first time this device was mounted on a scooter. The success was such that Salsbury tried
to license the design for several European manufacturers, including Piaggio. The Motor Glide
set the standards for all subsequent models. Inspired the product
