Zofran is a medication that is developed to treat symptoms of nausea and vomiting that are usually experienced by cancer patients who have undergone chemotherapy or radiation, or patients who have gone through surgery. The drug works by blocking the chemicals produced by the body that trigger nausea and vomiting. The drug comes in the form of an orally disintegrating tablet. Despite its popularity, not all patients are allowed to take it because of the several zofran side effects that may happen.

The drug works by blocking the chemicals produced by the bodythat trigger nausea and vomiting. The drug comes in the form of an orallydisintegrating tablet. Despite its popularity, not all patients are allowed to take itbecause of the severalzofran side effects that may happen.Firstly, zofran side effects are often experienced by patients who have liverdisease. For others, the side effects may be a result of taking zofran with othermedication that reacts adversely with each other. Forexample, there are patients who have reported loss of vision that last from a fewminutes, while for some it goes on for several hours. Taking this medicine is notadvised if one is going to drive or need to do some activity that requires focus. This is because zofran has an effect on one’s concentration and reaction time. Some people even report that they feel anxious, agitated, dizzy, or have thefeeling of passing out.Just like any other medication, one would be able to prevent or lessen some or allof the known zofran side effects when it is taken at the right dosage. Zofran orondansetron is used basically for the treatment of nausea and vomiting ofpatients who have undergone chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery.
  2. 2. For the treatment of nausea and vomiting for chemotherapy patients, therecommended oral dosage for adults is one 8mg tablet or 10mL of the oralsolution form of the drug. It is to be taken twice a day. In order to minimize oravoidzofran side effects, it is important to take not just the right dosage butalso to follow the recommended time of taking the medicine. The first doseshould be taken 30 minutes before starting chemotherapy, and the next dose tobe taken eight hours after. After completion of chemotherapy, the medicine is tobe taken for one to two days at an interval of every 12 hours.Zofran side effects that are considered as less serious include weakness orfeeling very tired. Some people will have headaches after taking the medicine ormay feel dizzy or drowsy. Others may have some slight fever, while in somepatients, it has been reported that they either have diarrhea or constipation. Onemust not ignore these side effects even if they are not that serious. It is still bestto seek medical help or consult with one’s doctor regarding these unwantedeffects of this medication.Meanwhile, there are zofran side effects that are considered as very serious. One example is having blurred vision or even has temporary loss of vision. Thismay last from a few minutes or even up to several hours. In some people, pounding heartbeats while feeling faint or very dizzy may happen.
