There are more than 5,821 bridges in South Dakota and 1,066 bridges of them are structurally
deficient and functionally obsolete. In fact, four of the most traveled bridges are structurally
deficient and functionally obsolete. Irrespective of the poor structure ratings, there are no
safety concerns or load limits in South Dakota.

5. Pennsylvania
According to a report by FHWA, out of 22,911 bridges in Pennsylvania, 4,701 bridges are structurally
deficient and need repair. Well, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced
that the repair will be finished in 2022.

6. Lowa
Out of 24,043 bridges, 4,719 bridges in Lowa are functionally obsolete. The most traveled
bridge - Rock Island Centennial Bridge is structurally deficient and needs repair. According to a
report of 2016, Lowa was on the top of the list of states with the most structurally deficient
and functionally obsolete bridges.
