A virulence factor is not the DNA of a bacterium, which codes for its proteins. Virulence factors include enzymes produced by bacteria to break down host tissue and allow migration, and the sticky capsule on the outside of a bacterium that helps it infect the host. The hooks a tapeworm uses to anchor itself is also a virulence factor.
