• Plastic bags when improperly disposed of,
end up as litter on our streets, countryside
and beaches where they are particularly
noticeable and unsightly – hanging on trees,
blowing across roadways, accumulating in
water systems, sewer drains and in our
oceans.

• Plastic bags are of major concern in the
marine and other aquatic environments, as
aquatic life can be threatened through
entanglement, suffocation and ingestion. Sea
turtles, dolphins, whales and other marine
species often mistake the plastic bags for jelly
fish and end up choking.

carried away by the winds and get stuck in
drains, gutters and watercourses, resulting in
