2. WHAT IS ONLINE
LEARNING?
S) Defines online learning as” education
that takes place over the Internet. It is often
referred to as e-learning among other terms.
However, online learning is just one type of distance
learning, the umbrella term for any learning that
takes place across distance and not in a traditional
classroom.”
(Joshua, S)
3. HOW HAS THE LOCKDOWN INTRODUCED
AND EXPANDED ONLINE LEARNING.
Most tertiary institutions and schools were aware of the
technological resources at their disposal before the Covid19 mandated
shutdown, but had never utilized them. Schools and tertiary institutions
were then compelled to implement and make use of teaching and
learning techniques like online learning during the lockdown, For the sake of
academic progress. Efficiency, accessibility in terms of time and location,
and the ability to accommodate different learning styles are all advantages
of the introduction and growth of online learning that were experienced
during the lockdown.
4. EFFICIENCY
During lockdown teachers had the
ability to effectively give
lessons through online learning
systems. Those teachers that
could, used most of the resources
that were available. Resources
such as podcasts, PDFs, videos
and platforms such as WhatsApp,
Google class, zoom and telegram
among others as part of their
lesson preparations and lessons as
well. This methods helped a lot of
teachers to become more effective
instructors by expanding the lesson
plan beyond standard textbooks
and chalk and talk, to include
online resources.
6. ACCESSIBILITY OF TIME AND PLACE.
The ability for learners to be able
to attend classes from the comfort
of their own homes is another
benefit of online education.
Additionally, due to the global
growth of collaboration it freed
most schools from the limitations
imposed by geographic limits and
enabled their learners to connect
with a wider network of pupils.
Plus, online lectures could also be
recorded, saved, and distributed for
later purpose. This
also enabled learners to access the
learning materials whenever it
was convenient for them. Therefore
for the teachers it was advantages
in that learners always had learning
material at their disposal.
7. The mandatory covid19 lockdown brought changes into the teaching
and learning environment that the education sector should have implemented to long ago, teachers
and learners exposed themselves to the innovative and collaborative online learning environment
and during that phase, academics were not in an inert state.
8. CATERS FOR A VARIETY OF LEARNING
STYLES.
It is no secret that every learner
has a unique learning path and a
unique learning style as well
. While some learn best through
visuals, while others learn best
through sounds or movement.
Similar to this, some pupils excel in
the classroom while others study
best on their own and become
easily distracted by huge groups.
With its variety of options and
resources, the online learning
system can be tailored in a manner
that suits a variety of ways learners
feel comfortable working
under. And that is why this method
can be greatest way to design an
ideal learning environment that
meets the needs of each learner.
